Plus the desire of politicians in government to assume more control over business and the country itself in my opinion.
Congress has much better perks - they don't even pay social security - and much better planes - US military transport basically available on a whim. Yet nobody says squat about how much Congress spends on itself. Plus, although corporations must disclose jets and stuff in their financial reports & filings, available for anyone to read - even someone without any shares, the Congress discloses *nothing* about how much our representatives and senators spend on perks and planes. And all of us are 'shareholders' of Congress, although by threat of jail instead of by choice. But let Congress bitch on TV about the Big 3 auto bosses using corporate jets, and score their sound-bite points against the easiest targets ever invented (along with wall street bankers in 2008), and everyone sings along in unison. Hell, even me, until I thought about it a minute.
Actually I think Congress does finally pay into Social Security. I think that was one of the things the Republicans pushed through not too long after they had been given control of Congress in the 90's.
or pay back since the dems (according to the numbers cited above) got the lionshare - they need to come up with the bigger better bailout program.
They're basically the same idea, KIRK. In both cases, the government took money collected from taxpayers in general -- and, remember, taxpayers includes both individuals and businesses -- and gave it to a specific subset in an effort to achieve a desired outcome.
