A generally only wear pants at work (because I have to). Otherwise it's shorts unless the temp is below 50 or so.

If it's too hot for pants, wear shorts. Fashion should be a slave to comfort. Why women don't embrace comfy shoes, or men don't abandon neckties is beyond me.

As for workplace fashion, ergonomics should be key, a happy worker is a productive worker and nobody is happy with uncomfortable garb. If a toga and a sombrero helps get the job done then what's the harm?

I once went somewhere while pregnant wearing my husband's boxer shorts. I didn't realize it was a community BBQ. Apparently there were a few very happy men that day...was sooo embarassed (barefoot and pregnant in men's underwear. Yippee)

I wear neckties now only when polite society demands them, which means rarely if ever. To a funeral, to a job interview. More recently, I've been tieless to a couple Wakes, wearing my suit and a nice dress shirt with an open collar, and everything was fine.

Long gone are the days I was required to wear a coat & tie to work. I think there is maybe one IT shop in the entire city that still requires that...and I don't work there! :)

I find that if I'm having a bad week, putting on a tie and jacket puts me in a better mood. Maybe I'm just weird?

(Oh -- not when it's 90 degrees out, though.)

Funny anectdote - I was going to a "Soldier Of The Month" board and right after I saluted and said my opening greeting or whatever, the president of the board said "pull down your pants."

My sponsor NCO (sitting off to the side) said "could you please repeat that?"

The president then explained that my pants were kind of riding up high on my shoes, and I needed to pull them down a bit so they rested where they should before I got started.

    Yeah, bit of a curveball.

Yes it's hot, but at least in Georgia we can expect it. Michigan, Maine, Minnessota, etc. aren't conditioned for that type of heat - it really puts a whammy on them.
