I like the uniforms and the look of the ship. It’s a nice bridge between Enterprise and TOS, a lot better than Discovery.
Better than Discovery as in the prequel concept and the evolution of uniforms and such. ETA: Better visually.
The interiors I.E. the consoles of the ship fill the gap as well. I do love the Kelvin interiors though.
at a glimpse, I've gotta disagree. it's a refit of/upgrade to the NX01 interiors, but hardly lines up to DSC. More like a dead end-same as spore drives and TOS era trans warp. The comparison is as irrelevant as comparing a C130 to the Spirit of St Louis. the ship is more ridiculous than fugly.. although it is really fugly. After this think we can put to bed any critiques of certain other hero ships. If Forbin had kitbashed that together I'd tell him to get better ventilation in his studio. the uniforms were alright, and yeah, actually did imply a design lineage to ENT effectively. Better material, comfort, etc. Just glancing at it and I know I'm within a decade of Terra Prime (because TATV NEVER HAPPENED) That one chick was kind of jarring... Other than Cronenberg, have we ever seen a character wearing glasses? I'd think LASEK with phaser tech would be pretty effective by this time. sound quality is pretty bad and the green screened exterior scenes I did see were a little headache/nausea inducing.. interiors looked pretty good.
Kirk had reading glasses in TWOK because he was allergic to retnex 5. But that’s supposed to be an age thing. I don’t the ship is fugly at all. I like the naval like design. I’m not sure what makes it ridiculous.
yes, I know. but Kirk's were an affectation/joke gift. and LASEK was still a decade away from FDA approval for contrast, a friend gave me a cane for my 50th. Makes up for the box of Depends I got him for his 70th, but still... I think it's the closeness of the nacelles on that completely absurd neck/tailfin structure. That was one of my main problems with the first version of the JJprise too, having the nacelles so far inboard. (Not a fan of the Stargazer either, so...). Likewise, we often talk about ship design/design lineages... this one is off the field and kind of spare parts looking. A little more thought (and looking up some design stills), I could just as easily take this as a predecessor to the NX01 era.
Yeah, place the nacelles further apart and the design would look better, IMHO. As-is it just looks like the designer is trying to be different for the sake of being different.
i think I saw that... here we witness an example of the differences between graphic and industrial designers. a graphic designer's goal is for "visual impact", which the ship definitely makes. you could pick it out in a field of other ships, especially with the established UFP theory of modular construction. however an industrial designer is endeavoring for a sense of implying function by the form. if you're going to claim the fastest ship in the fleet/cutting edge power plant, then you're goin to need a streamlined shape to make it believable even in the vacuum of space... otherwise it isn't relevant and claiming that "trying to keep up would melt the warp coils of an NX" is an empty flex. by that same token, putting the (best, most powerful ever) subspace comm array smack dab in front of the nacelles (which generate an energy field that IFAIK will interfere with it) seems counter intuitive. That said, a little more on how well the interiors are laid out and presented is great. there's an economic use of space that at a glance appears quite successful, that they abandoned trying to imply in ENT. I feel the "das boot" more than "red october" era of either the 1701 or 1031... I'll probably give the whole thing a watch at some point this week.
