No, it simply means you're not a true competitor.

Then why not make it 66? Then you could get coverage too....

There's nothing sad about TKO. When the world starts falling apart, kids (excuse me, but from my "geezer" point of view...) like her, and Anna, and others who dare to do what they dream and don't care about the difficulties, will own the future.

Can you say as much for yourself?

No. When the world starts falling apart me and the rest of the people with guns will own the future.

    Well, us and Chuck Norris.

The world can't fall apart while Chuck Norris is still around. It wouldn't dare! Chuck would give it a roundhouse kick that'd put everything back in order.

Sorry to put things back on topic, but as Lanzman said earlier... who cares? Why shouldn't there be a plan for families no matter how old the kids get. You can keep your kids on your car insurance forever, why is health insurance different? If they pay for the policy who cares who all is included on it?

Seriously, I'm all for doing what you love, but if you don't use common sense, and you go to school for 10 years and get into a career that pays you $45,000/year, well too fucking bad if you struggle financially the rest of your life.

    This.

As long as there is no legislation forcing parents to pay for their kid's insurance until they are 26, then what does it matter?

If a parent doesn't want to pay, they can just have them removed as far as I can tell.

Most parents would probably pay for awhile and then insist the kid help pay for it. Nothing wrong with that, IMO.

I'm talking about a totally free market for insurance. No one said anything about forcing parents to pay. When kids turn 18 if the parent wants to cut them off then so be it. If the parent doesn't then who's business is it but their own?

 If she's happy then what does it matter to you or me? College Professors do fine once they get tenure anyway.

I agree. Liberty and responsibility: You make your own choices, and you deal with the consequences. No one owes you anything.

Where I disagree is in the underlying assumption that only making $45,000 a year for the rest of your life is necessarily the result of "not using common sense." The primary motivation of a lot of people is to make as much money as possible. I have no problem with that, but I do not agree that it necessarily represents a better set of priorities than someone who did something else that didn't pay much.

I'm specifically referring to the amount of college kids going into stupid classes in post secondary. Doing what TKO is doing isn't so bad, but if you're going for an English Major, don't get your hopes up that you'll amount to making any sort of decent money down the road.

And in the grand scheme of things, there is a little chance that they'll be making any kind of fucking difference in the world around them.

Research, being a professor, even if you're not making lots of money, at least there will always be the satisfaction there that you're making a difference. A big difference.

On that I commend you. :techman:

    *Raises hand*

Going back to Dayton's point (I only read the first 25 or so posts), 26 is a LOOOOOONG ass time to be depending on your family for financial support, regardless of career. It is possible to get affordable health care--in California, I was able to find insurance for as little as 50 dollars a month, and my old job offered it to me for 38 dollars (most retail places do have health insurance).

Personally, I was embarrassed as it was to take rides to and from work from my family because I couldn't drive, by that's just me.
