Okay, flying into Vegas for the Labor Day weekend (on the 3rd) and staying for about a week - probably.
Where should I stay? Definitely want to be on the strip as we're going for the parties and not the gambling. Currently the most likely option is the Flamingo as they're both on the strip and have reasonable prices but wouldn't mind moving up a level or so - shouldn't be too expensive though.

    Any recommendations?

I haven't been to Vegas since 1995, so I've got no useful info to share. Good luck, though!

I stayed at the Riviera when I was there early last year. Clean rooms and decent prices.

My friends stayed at Caesars, but they went four men a room to save money. I figured I was far enough away from college where I didn't have to spoon with another man to save a buck. :ramen:

Hotels are for sleeping and crapping. Save the money to party with.

You can do a lot worse than the Flamingo, and it's well situated. :techman:

Stayed at the MGM was around 200 a night iirc; but this was new years 08, so it might be more reasonable now. Smack dab in the middle of everything tho, so maybe worth it.

Well a holiday weekend is about the worst time to go to Vegas, as far as hotel prices. Those rooms are probably 7 times what they are on a Wednesday, but such is life.

Stayed at the Riviera in the 1990s. It was adequate for a reasonable price and they had their really cheezy topless review for free if you were a guest.

I stayed at the Excalibur in 1994(?). Part of a package deal, so no idea about the rates.

Ramen is right about the function of the hotel room. You're not gonna spend a lot of time there, so don't drop a load of cash on it. Find a cheap enough place near everything, that isn't a rathole.

Depends what you want I suppose.....most of my Vegas experiences are rated R. I usually stay at the MGM Grand.

Regardless, The Spearmint Rhino is a fine nudie bar and should be visited every time you go there, the 150 or so women they have walking around are all gorgeous. My nipples are still a bit sore from being tweaked so much last time I was there. It's a bit on the pricey side but to me it's money well spent.

Pool parties like Wet Republic (MGM Grand) and Rehab (Hard Rock) are also must sees, just scantily clad women dancing and drinking in the hot sun. Just make sure you get there early.

The Gun Store ( Link ) is something I always go to as well, you can shoot all sorts of weapons at their range, and it's about a 10 dollar cab ride outside of the Strip.

Restaurant wise, I really enjoy Tao at the Venetian, the food and atmosphere is excellent, plus there's a great rooftop bar for after dinner.

Then again, I don't know what you're expecting to do.....this could be a PG trip for all I know. ;)

Next time try Club Paradise across from the Hard Rock. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I like the Rhino okay but their cover charge is flat ridiculous.

Also, whichever club you go to, call ahead of time and negotiate a deal where you don't have to pay the cover. Usually it's just a name and/or a code word. Most places in Vegas will do this if you call ahead, especially now that times are tough. It's also a mistake to have a cab drop you right out front, because then they know how you got there and they'll jack you for the whole cover knowing that you've got no options except to get back in another cab.

Okay, ended up booking the Mirage in the last couple of hours of their current 72h sale - about a grand including all taxes, resort fees and whatever else nasty shit they came up with.
I guess I can live with that.

This is certainly not intended to be a PG-13 trip but rather an NC trip - not so sure about the titty bars however as I'm not a huge fan of the U.S. variety...

Will definitely consider the gun thing and would of course be very thankful for additional hints!

We're hoping to go to Vegas at some point for the massive hunting show they have. My DH that is. Not me. I want to go for the cabana boys and unlimited drinks.

However since I'm due in about 2 months we'll have to wait until afterwards so can dress like a hooker, drink like a fish and flirt until my DH feels like a tomcat on the prowl ;)

Was the grand for the holiday prices? Its seems like a lot from what I've heard of Vegas (I hover a lot, my life is pretty uneventful but did want to ask :))

Yeah the expensive stuff was the Labor Day weekend - afterwards it's something like $64 a night - before they add all their other crap ($15 resort fee + taxes).

Right now there's an offer for the Luxor where you get suites for a ridiculous price:
    https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?pid=LUX&host=promo&code=LUPGRAD&kbid=755041

However, I wanna be smack in the middle of everythign (+ close to my friends who're at the Flamingo) and the Luxor's got shitty review so don't think I'm gonna change.

Vegas. Ever since they closed the Star Trek Experience, the only thing to do there are the whores. :clyde:

I was there in 2002, lots to see and do without gambling or whoring. Dude, there is a roller coaster on the roof of the Paris hotel. I did not know it was there and totally regret not riding that one. Circus circus and the big top is pretty cool. There will be guys stanging on the street corners handing out cards for prostitutes, but the can't say anything, they just thump the cards real loud. That was kind of weird, must be a law. Rent a car, parking is free most places and the strip is pretty long. We were there in July and it was 115 degrees, so the truck with A/C was a blessing. We were on a 3 week trip out west and towed the camper.
