Ideally, organize the smilies into different pages selectable from a dropdown menu when you click on 'More'.

But if that's not possible, I'd suggest getting rid of the flag icons, the zodiac icons, and the metal slug smilies (those ones seem to have the highest amount of animation to them). If necessary, get rid of some of the bigger ones.

If they can't be split into categories, I say flags go, and big smilies shrunk or gone.
Have the guys vote on their favorite metal slug smilies, keep 4 or 5, and trash the rest.
All ribbons (except maybe pink, red, any common ribbons that stand for a well-known cause) can die.

    [action=Timmy]can't find the ribbons...[/action]

But if we do have ribbons, get rid of them.

If after getting rid of the flags, zodiac signs, and metal slugs, we still need to get rid of smilies I could live without the following:

[?=not many, actually...]:mewa: :rave: :marso: :voter: :repost: :tk: :ban: :stars: :juggle: :smitten:  :cookie: :sun: :yuck: :zod: :tardback: :dizzy: :boom: :Oooo: :tits: :micro: :charge: :what: :chili: :chain: :ghost: :suck: :sroll: :music: :saw: :IMHO!: [/?]

Keep as many of the usernamed smilies as possible.

And only get rid of smilies if the tabbed/dropdown menu smilies thing isn't an option.

I added alot of them to see what would fly, but I do need to remove some of them. Not all of them, just some of them.

When have those ever been used, besides in a smiley thread?

I can honestly say I've seen those tits in a White Room thread at least once, and the fighter plane at least once. But I've never seen that bearded dude until I was looking for which smilies need to go.

Once we get the gallery back, why not just toss the flags and the really huge ones that are used rarely in there? Stick a thread to the helpdesk with their location and let people who want them for sigs and whatnot go there for them.

I use both :tits: and :marso:. And Marso also uses :marso: seeing as it's his smilie.

Could there be a way to have several different pages instead of ONE page for the smilies? I know don't use them a lot because I have to sift through so many to find the one(s) I really want to use.
Perhaps if they were separated into how we as a board seem to use them with links to the separate pages, then they might load faster.

We need some input from Order2Chaos here.

I have no idea what might be available for smilie organization. I just point in terror and scream "Help me!" until someone does. ;)

Technically, is it feasible to have another, intermediate, smilie screen? You got the 20 or so that are next to the post window, with the "More Smilies" tag under it. Is there a way that this could open a page that has, maybe 100 smilies on it? Then you could have another tab at the bottom that says "Even More Smilies" that gives you all of them. That way you get 80% of the smilies you use a heckuva lot faster, but if you ever need to remember the code for a weird, esoteric smilie you can still open the Big Smilie Page.

TKO can go through all the threads and tell us what the 100 most used smilies are. :soma:

Alternately, we could have "Smilie Survivor". Every week the smilie with the most votes gets voted off the island. The eliminations stop when we get to the point where no smilie gets x number of votes.

    Okay, just saw this thread.

    First the easy issue:

I've tried to fix the quick-reply smily pop-up ever since it broke in the upgrade, but every time I get it to work, the page you're on doesn't stay the same, it just says something like "object activated" or some such. If anyone knows the proper way to open a popup without Start() or openWindow(), please let me know.

    On the technical side:

wrt the multi-page idea: yeah that's doable, but at the cost of being able to click to insert.

There is a hack now to allow people to come up with their personal favorites list of smilies. I'll test it out and see if it works.

The link to the site that has those isn't hard to find...and they don't seem to mind hotlinking.

Might start a forum listing a few interesting urls.

I could live without the flag smilies, even though it means losing :reb:.

But if you try to take away :muad:, this means war!
