I owed the lovely Karen In Security (formerly known as Karen in marketing) some money for her daughter's Girl Scout cookies. The problem being, she now works in the security offices, which is a closed area, accessible only by coded key card or by pounding on the door until someone opens it. She just started there this month, so being the newbie, she's all nervous about making an impression. I'm therefore under direct orders from her to NOT go in there and get her in trouble (never happen - everybody in Security is real nice and friendly, and only an Evil Ogre could get mad at Karen). So I was carrying the money around for a few days hoping to run into her in the halls. No such luck. So I happen to be coming out of the men's room near security (cleanest one in the building), when one of the Security managers walks by. Real nice guy I'd recently done a favor for. "Hey!" says I, "If you're going upstairs, could you give this money to Karen?" At which point the Senior Security Administrator hands me his whole keychain, with his ID badge, key card and all his keys on it, and says "G'head up. Just leave that on my desk when you're done."
Your company should ship the whole security division down to the Mexican border. They'd be right at home there.
You coulda probly caught her before work or even after and not had to use company time for personal things but it was nice of that fella to help you out. Des
To be fair, F, the guy DOES know you--has a good relationship with you even. And I'm guessing in your line of work you've got a fairly high security clearance. And he was having you leave the keys in about as secure a place as there is in the building.
