Precisely. Making the Law of Pythagoras about this one male Greek person rather than presenting it as a universal law of geometry is committing the very mistake the non-readers in this thread believe the study is making, when in fact it criticises it.
Thank you for proving there is nothing so wrong and debased that you will not swallow it whole as long as it sounds leftist. The ability to call a spade a spade even if your own side does it is just something you lack.
If you follow the link I provided to a past thread on this topic liberals were claiming that because blacks and hispanics do worse on average than whites therefor math should no longer be required to be taught as a badic skill because to do so was some how racist. Yes, the movement as a whole is claiming math itself is racist, should be optional, because non-whites are supposedly just not capable enough to learn math. Do you notice how everything these racist liberals propose makes minorities worse off, less capable, less educated, and less employable? All while babbling horse shit about wanting all children to reach high standards is some how "racist"? These people are truly racist filth who will do nothing but harm minority children.
So reading is something you are not good at. Either that or you just like to lie. Either way you look terrible.
Well, yanno, you can't be too careful about those "badic" skills. As the etymology suggests, they can easily lead to a life of crime.
Historically, things are named after the person who discovers/creates them. Find proof of someone who came up with a^2 + b^2 = c^2 before Pythagoras, and I'll be happy to call the theorem something else.
Not quite what the study talks about. Besides, we neither have a good reason to think that Pythagoras discovered this, nor do we do this with other discoveries (radiation is called radiation and not a Curie effect; English calls X-ray X-ray rather than by the German name Roentgen radiation, which tells you this was a German guy's discovery, and so on).
We most certainly DO do this with other discoveries: The Van Allen belts The Fujita scale The Richter scale Comet Shoemaker-Levy L'Hopital's Rule Euler's Method Ohm's Law Archimedes' Principle Bernoulli equations Planck's constant etc... It may not be quite universal in application, but nonetheless it is still very common.
Do you think these racists care about that? Do you think these racists care about the futures of the children that they want to deny proper educations?
Technically it would never be an airplane, because as soon as someone said "what length should I cut this piece?" you've got math and therefore racism.
Math isn’t racist, and nobody has proposed abolishing the teaching of it. The question is whether the way math is taught needs to be changed to improve students’ experience of learning.
That's the difficulty of teaching math - there are only so many ways to teach it. That and factor in the time restraints - let me preach on it: you as a student only have X amount of time during the period to learn Y concept (or practice Y concept). And you as a teacher only have X amount of time etc.etc. You as a student have to keep up with the rest of the class, period. If the methods to teach you the minority student take longer than it takes to teach the majority of the class (teachers must keep to a schedule more or less) what is the school supposed to do? Maybe the entire math teaching world needs to develop a new technique, get it verified & certified & quantified & qualified then schools across the US can teach this new & improved method.
You are just a liar. I linked the thread where you, in all your politically correct stupidity, claimed math should not be a requorement to get a two year degree because minorities tend to score poorly at math and therefor it was racist. We were talking about algebra which most people learn in 5th and 6th grade. You are a clown who would be funny except you are a puece of shit trying to rob stydents of an education.
"the movement" Is sort of like calling Alex Jones a movement. Sure, there are a few tens of thousand of people who take him seriously, some even hold office, but there's no "movement" of Sandy Hook deniers, just some batshit fringe nutters. Likewise...
I wish that were true but unfortunately it is not. You have the teachers unions and the head of the state community college system in California saying math is racist because minorities don't score as highly as whites so they officially have proposed dropping math as a requirement for graduation in most cases so as to not be "racist". Follow the link to the other thread. I am afraid this cancer is deep in the bones among the left. The end result of this idiotic social promotion will be degrees which are not worth shit and a generation of students so poorly educated that they do not have basic skills. As usual the American left is harming those very people they claim to want to help.
I doubt it is even that. Oh, that is how they are trying to sell this garbage but, at leadt here in California, it is the teachers union pushing this garbage. They keep getting crusified in the papers about how they suck at teaching basic skills like math. Often they are pushing new age hippy shit and pretending it is math instead of the tried and true actual traditional mathematics. They also get pegged for failing minorities as minorities need more help on average. So now they simply want to stop trying, give away a degree even if they cannot read or do basic math. That is not a path tp success and there really does need to be a purge where these lazy, worthless, dumb ass, supposed teachers (who don't want to actually teach) get fired in mass.
I guess we can't mention that any more without being racist just like we can't mention who invented most mathmatical principles without being "racist" (according to shitty teachers who do not want to do their fucking jobs nor be accountable for their failures to do their fucking jobs).
I've never seen any claim that any subject, let alone math and science, were racists in the objective facts except literature and the like which is by it's nature subjective. I HAVE seen the claim that HOW IT IS TAUGHT AND TESTED can be discriminatory and needs to be re-examined, but that's a much different thing than saying the objective facts of mathematics are "racist"
