not dying in. Then when we go to war they protest the war. What the fuck have we lost in Syria? So, they are using gas, so did saddam and it was an "illegal war" going after him. Why should we be giving military support to the rebels in a civil war? First send in some "advisers" like JFK did, that is what I predict will happen next. Supply weapons and escalate the war. I am sure the Russians will like making the money.

We should give the rebels just enough support to keep them in the game, not enough for them to win. A longer civil war between asshole group A and asshole group B works just fine for me. Do I fit your stereotype EP?

If we wanted to end that war we could do that in a matter of hours but everyone knows they won't do that. Why take decisive action when you can put boots on the ground and let it drag out for years? When you pick sides in a civil war that is what happens. Obama wants to create another chaotic Muslim state like Egypt and Libya and what will that benefit the people of those lands? If we enter a war, we need to bring all our might to bear and drop the hammer and get it over with as fast as possible. Fuck winning hearts and minds and all that liberal horseshit that has failed us since Korea. All that should not be a consideration once we decide to take military action. Also the media should be afforded no permissions or protections in a war zone.

Do you think war does not line the pockets of government. Liberals want war so they can say "look we can fight a war overseas but we can't provide free XYZ to the crack whores in the ghettos". It has always been there design, they support something long enough to get it started and then use it as an excuse for funding some free ride program to get votes. Another example of that is the space program apollo missions. The democrats were all about going to the moon so they could say "we can send a man the moon but we can't afford free XYZ for the crack whores"

If you're talking about glassing the Middle East, even an intellectual primordial drawf such as yourself can see the type of Pandora's box that would be opened up with that decision.

But that out the way, that in retrospect was a huge problem with the Iraq conflict. There were no long-term goals, and the number of troops sent were considerably less than many said were needed at the time. This would have been an issue, even if they had found something over there. I honestly think that we had no business playing world police in Syria, it's now one more conflict for us to be involved in and stretch out the decreasing number of troops and resources we have.

I'm not favoring any kind of major intervention. I just don't like the idea of Assad regaining full control. The US, Israel, and Turkey, are all better off if he's distracted by internal issues. Keep them fighting with each other for as long as we can, and the region is overall more peaceful. Remember the Iran-Iraq war? Iraq became a problem once it wasn't distracted by Iran. Let the fuckers kill each other instead of us.

Syria is an incredible can of worms. Neither side is 'good', and neither side will be an advantage for the people there or the west. Obama's decision is plain wrong (I hate to say it but that's been the case a lot lately) - as is Russia's, France's and the UK's. If he wanted to end this right now, he could, within a week I gather. Of course we'd have a Libya situation but nobody says we're unable to learn from mistakes: you need boots on the ground to control the situation afterwards. Bombing a country into the stone age alone will just encourage extremist groups to fill a power vacuum.

Syria should be off limits. Nothing good will come from meddling there. But if we absolutely have to, do it quick, hard and right. Sending modern weapons to the islamist rebels will just drag this out for a few more years. This latest decision just tells me that the fate of Syrian civilians is of no concern whatsoever.

I say let them at it. Sooner or later, they will make Israel angry enough to end this.

While I don't necessarily favour intervention, I don't agree that this is the choice being faced, and I certainly don't agree that "letting the fuckers kill each other" to be an acceptable outcome if something can be done. There are 90,000 dead at this point, and a lot of them are women and children.

You may be right that "the west" don't care, but I doubt that ending the conflict would be so simple.
And the implicit assumption here is that we could or should take one side and bring overwhelming violence to bear to ensure that they win. I'd say that a more diplomatic approach should also be looked at.

The problem is that the diplomatic approach has arguably failed where Syria is concerned. Assad has displayed clearly that he is determined to push on no matter what, and with even Iranian support beginning to dwindle he pushes on. He's a classic dictator of the Hussein/Mugabe variety, just a little less overt with his rhetoric. He's not playing ball. That puts us in a difficult position. Do we intervene and put a wildcard in his place or do we hope that Assad begins to succumb to international pressure? Either way is a lottery and either way people who don't deserve to die will die nonetheless.

That is the reality of the world, which is why the opinions of dribbling morons like EP make me feel embarrassment at the two dimensional stupidity festering in the West.
