First, let me summarize the last week or so. Last Monday, we requested some maintenance be done on the server. Due to a miscommunication with the host, the server was reimaged, causing the downtime of the past week.

I got the board online Saturday afternoon after O2C took care of some permissions issues and uploading. However, the most recent copy of the database we had was at made around the first of December, 2008. This is the copy that is running currently.

After talking with the web hosts, it is confirmed that we do not have a more recent copy of the database, whether it be theirs or ours. This unfortunately means that we have lost the posts from early December until 28 March.

Hence, we've decided that we are going to go ahead with the database as it is right now. There is little technical merit to resetting the board, whether it be in terms of speed or stability. While there is some allure for the social benefits of resetting the board, it would likely be offputting to new and potential members.

As of right now, the priority is bringing the board features and functionality back to the point they were at before last Monday. We have also decided on a distributed backup regimen that should prevent this problem from ever happening again.

If you notice technical issues, please post in the Help Desk or PM Order2Chaos or myself. Again, if you created an account since early December, you will have to recreate it - we apologize for the inconvenience.

Any policy or general interest questions should be directed to Lanzman. We apologize for this turn of events - it is disappointing to all of us.
