To the uninitiated, "Luft '46" refers to all the crazy warplane designs on Nazi drawing boards during WWII, and wonders what they'd look like in the flesh if the war dragged on another year and they'd been built. "What-if" is another genre of warplane buffs who like to come up with variations of existing planes in different nations' markings, or with crazy modifications.

So, a little of both. The Dornier 335 was one of the last of Germany's advanced fighter-bomber designs. A couple of dozen were actually built, so it surpasses the "paper projects" in that regard. But, apart from a couple of rumored encounters, it never made it into combat. Most of them were bombed to shit on the ground at the factory. Some were taken to France, England or the US for testing. AFAIK only one survives in a museum today. My killing-time-at-work project for the last few weeks was to come up with some what-if color profiles of Do 335s as if they'd gone into service.

The color schemes are mostly based on actual German planes. The units and squadron badges are real. The various marks (Do-335A-1; Do-335B-4, etc) are based on a table in a book that laid out how each mark was actually planned to be equipped.
