Sports if basically a secular religion in the United States, but there are some major "events" that I don't like at all.

    In no particular order:

    1) March Madness (NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament). Sorry I hate hearing people say "have you filled out your bracket". As if most people give a rats ass about most of the sixty odd teams that are invited to the "big dance". I can understand getting worked up when you have four teams left (the Final Four) in the semi finals. But not the whole damn thing.

    2) Anything related to NASCAR. Sorry, I think race cars are cool if they look like airplanes on the ground (Indycar, Formula One). But I've no regard with cars that at least superficially look run of the mill street cars. I also have disdain for a "sport" where the car wrecks are actually something people look forward to seeing and some drivers deliberately cause. At least in Indycar and Formula One accidents are something to be avoided at all costs.

    3) Dog races: Horse races are relatively cool. With the huge magnificent animals running. But "dog races"??? Watching some of the ugliest dogs in creation chase a bundle of rags? Come on.

    4) Anything competitive fishing- Fishing should be either a commercial venture or a quiet, solitary contemplative activity.

I wouldn't say "hate", but I don't care for baseball, soccer, or any college sport other than football (and that I only watch occasionally because that's where NFL players come from).

It'd probably be easier to list the sports I don't think are stupid.

Hockey, because any game that involves a five minute penalty for aggravated assault is worth watching. Shocking that with blades on their feet, roundhouse kicks aren't more frequent.

Actually, that's about it. Basketball is pretty popular with my housemates, and at least as fast paced as hockey. But I'm not a fan.

Soccer is fun to attend, but watching two people play pong for an hour and a half is about the same as a televised match.

Baseball and Football bore the shit out of me... I seem to recall one of the praises of the former is that you don't have to see a game to visualize it being played. How is this interesting to people???

    I don't think I hate anything.

Don't care about much more than football (SEC and NFL) and soccer.

Used to be big into NASCAR but you really need to be regularly attending races to stay hooked. On TV it's boring, so if you don't have the connection there is no point.

I can totally understand people who haven't grown up with it not liking American rules football given its intermittent nature.

But the intermittency of it is a great part of the appeal for a fan or a viewer. Football is the kind of thing that with play stopping every 10 seconds for about 10-20 second periods, it naturally invites a fan to comment/complain to others in attendance

"Why didn't they run the ball?"
"The quarterback made a stupid mistake!"
"The offensive line just isn't blocking today"
    "Our defence is looking good!"

As Dayton said pro bass fishing is not cool - it's all about faster boats and better electronics (depth finders, fish locators, etc.etc) and a gazillion fisherman launching at the same time - give me a canoe on a quiet pond! NASCAR? Super loud cars driving the same route for hundreds of laps -
Basketball? Thump thump thump squeak squeak thump thump thump squeak squeak - 90 percent of the people look exactly the same -
Football? A field full of 250+ pound sized guys running around giving each other concussions - nobody I can relate to. And are these guys drug tested? I'm just asking mind you......:chris: Suffice it to say I'm not a sports fan except for MMA and boxing. Tiny fighters, huge fighters, black, white, asian, hispanic, male and female fighters, rich, poor.......it's diversity at it's best. So if a sport doesn't have weight classes and strictly drug tested people of all shapes and sizes and backgrounds beating the living dog shit out of each other, I'm not interested in it. :yuck:

I've enjoyed outings to hockey, basketball, and baseball games, but I probably wouldn't be caught dead watching them. I find them all as boring AF.

I watch football (no, I don't mean soccer, which is doubly boring AF) and enjoy it, but I don't follow it.

I've only ever sat through one NASCAR race, because it was a weekend and the cable was turned off.

It also was the one where Dale Earnhardt Sr. bit it in the last quarter mile of the race.

The only thing I hate isn't a sport. It's improv jazz. Seriously. Hearing it literally...not figuratively, but literally makes me want to break stuff. I have no idea why.

Same here. I'm clumsy as fuck and not at all athletically inclined, but I'd rather make an ass of myself attempting to play any sport than watch. Maybe if I had kids or friends who were playing it would be interesting to me, but a bunch of random people?

    This, so much.

Though I can't say I hate any major sporting events. The ones I don't care about are pretty easy to ignore.

Here's something, I hate that the University of Illinois just fired its basketball coach, again, because now I have to listen to endless speculation about the new coach on the radio for the next couple weeks. :brood:

I "watch" NASCAR in the same way I "watch" golf or baseball: if it's a lazy Sunday afternoon and I'm feeling a nap coming on, I'll change the channel to one of those three things and I'll be snoozing in short order.

Oddly, it's one of the few team sports I did play when I was younger, and likely the one I was involved with the longest.
It was great as a player, but as a spectator? It just doesn't capture my interest.

I have a hard time staying interested in a group of people who need a break from work every 10 seconds.

It's the kind of work ethic that would resonate with taker state Americans though.

Without the break every 10 seconds, most football players would be crippled or dead.

Completely disagree about March Madness. I find it far more engrossing than college football.

I agree with you about NASCAR. Don't care for car racing. Maybe it's exciting in person, but on TV it's beyond tedius.

Dog racing? When is that ever televised?

I've never cared for fishing. Didn't like it as a kid, still don't like it. Can easily think of 100 other things I'd rather do with an afternoon.

I enjoy going to baseball games. I find them very relaxing. But I would never have the patience to sit and watch an entire game on TV. I watched the previous World Series entirely via highlights on YouTube.

I would rather watch paint dry than watch pro soccer. College soccer seems like it would be fun in person.

I've lost a great deal of interest in college football over the past 5 years. The sleazy coaches, the NCAA's shameless corruption, the thug players....it's just too much.
