Ah, you opted for academia. I understand, especially these days. No, I was trained as a translator and had 30 years of good, interesting work with a humanitarian organization. It started out mostly translation, when the working language was French but -- with the end of the Cold War -- became increasingly an editing job since the texts were written in English (or Frenglish ...). We call it "trediting".
I hear that. 20 years ago, people gave me good German texts to translate. Now they all write awful English instead and hope their editors will guess what they meant and then fix it.
what would be the point now? It's like all the grumbling the left had about impeaching Bush in 2007. Wasted effort.
Between impeachment and stepping down there is a third option coming to mind: the guy is 70 years old and probably has a resting pulse of 210. Natural causes. Stress of the office. No one's to blame. Pence on the other hand...
don't forget the table full of folders packed with blank paper on one side, and an assortment of Trump brand products there for no reason at all on the other side
right, I just have to hope when it happens, it happens before the mid-terms so Pence can't stand for re-election twice
I'm hoping for January 21st, 2019. So Pence can serve 10 years. Oh to dream. He isn't Scott Walker or Marco Rubio but he'll do.
It is a decent possibility. He is well into the ages where people pass away quickly. I watched my grandfather go from walking and running every day to being bed ridden and dying within a year due to a bunch of hits after a small fracture in his back lead to a finding of a tiny cancer in his lungs which were all not fatal. He kept up trying to exercise but then he fell and got a brain bleed they missed for months. A whole bunch of little things kept hitting him until finally he got a antibiotic resistant hospital infection which took him out. Trump is healthy enough to be very active, but things like cancer or severe sickness can immobilizer you fast, and that just makes things worse. Plus he could have a heart attack or stroke. We know he does not listen to anyone, and that also includes his doctor. I am positive he was snorting coke through the debates. He can find the same doctor's who prescribe the same shit that celebrities die from because they are yes men. It is a possibility. If it does happen he passes away due to health issues I see his tinfoil hat base blaming Hillary and the dems for poisoning him or covering up his assassination. They will never accept what should be a probable cause of death for a person of his age and lifestyle.
One is often disappointed with this type of reasoning. I remember using it with Reagan. Pence is a vicious little twerp, no question. But he's Lean'n'Mean Nut-Crunchin' Republicanism As We Know It. At least he wouldn't be a semi-demented, nuke-armed loose cannon like Donald.
Reagan didn't have an obvious, visible blood pressure of 180 over 120 while sitting down. Age alone is not an argument - 70 is nothing these days. But Trump looks like he'll have a heart attack any second, every second. Also, right on with Pence. He's a pest but at least a predictable one.
But that was 40 years ago, not these days. And he was old. So I was hoping ... Meaning he's foaming at the mouth half the time. That can't be too uhh.. beneficial for your arterial walls. Yet he might live to be 100. My mother was a bitter, nervous alcoholic who lived to 85, smoking well over half a million cigarettes in the process. She was like whoever it was who said "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." Well, FDR died in office of a stroke. One can always hope. If it happened, Donald would be a martyr ...
That is why I said "fairly well regarded". From what I've read he has generally been considered the greatest American president between the presidencies of Washington and Lincoln.
Well, yeah, if you don't like Natives, I suppose. Plenty of people at the time totally cheered him on for ignoring the Supreme Court's order to respect the sovereignty of those tribes. Of course, it still is what it is.
You realize that right now those two adjectives are antonyms right? Clinton was about as moderate as you can be and her own party stayed home because of it. Remember, less people voted for Trump than voted for Romney or McCain. It was the left (especially young people) not showing up for Hillary that allowed Trump to take the Electoral College.
Clinton is a neo-conservative darling of Wall Street, basically everything the left has hated over the last 16 or so years. Yet they still voted for her. In droves. Americans. The D or R behind a politicians's name has become Pavlovian.
Yes. Captain Prat doesn't know what he's talking about as usual. Clinton a leftist? Laughable. She was clear just left of centre and the left not showing up wasn't the only problem. It was the stench of corruption and dishonesty (whether true or otherwise) that hung around her which put off undecideds, and she was polarising a figure for the right, hated and despise by most, that she was never going to drag people over to the other side like her husband and Obama were able to. I'd argue that this election, more than ever before, had very little to do with actual policy. I bet if you lined up 100 Trumpites and asked them what Hillary's election policies were, 5 would be able to answer. Hell, I bet only 20 would be able to give you a comprehensive list of Trump's.
Are you sure a huge chunk of that wasn't the "not Trump" vote, given the all round poor election turnout?
Obama really was the Kennedy of his time as far as popularity goes. He was young, hip, exciting, not Washington and his message resonated with a lot of people. Republicans didn't stand a chance. If he would have been allowed a third chance to run he would have won hands down. Hillary was no Obama. She was all Washington, very defensive and very much NOT someone who could connect with voters. Plus the way the DNC cleared the decks for her was a huge turnoff to the base. Trump really had the perfect opponent because in another year a Gore or even Kerry would have beaten him.
I am positive he was snorting coke through the debates. He can find the same doctor's who prescribe the same shit that celebrities die from because they are yes men. It is a possibility. - Tererun Your last sentence has credibility - but your first sentence is bullshit. You cannot "be positive" he was on coke. Give me a break. And Aurora can (somehow, through some miracle of medical science or perhaps super powers!) read blood pressure without actually measuring it via equipment. "Reagan didn't have an obvious, visible blood pressure of 180 over 120 while sitting down." - so what is my blood pressure Aurora? And give me a quick read on my free T while you are at it too, okay? What is your phone number so I can give it to my doctors in case I need a second opinion?
I suppose we should give Tererun a break as apparently (by his own admission) he is an expert on illegal drug use.
Given his penchant for humping chairs when other people are talking, I'd wonder whether Donnie is a case of undiagnosed ADHD.
I am not looking for Obama to get shot, but that would make Biden a president and all the merchandise trump was going to fleece his supporters with would say 45th president and that would be Biden. It would be just like trump to fuck up like that.
Coincidentally, I remember @Spaceturkey bringing up the same point that he had tells of coke usage during one of his debates. I mean, I wish wed decriminalization most shit out there but drug use + age × the stress of being the leader of the free world doesn't bode well for anyone's health.
1st one. Forbes magazine noticed it too. They take the time to explore a few other possibilities though Bruce Y. Lee \ Looks like a change in microphone hasn't changed Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump's frequent sniffling. As you may have heard, Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont and most importantly in this context medical doctor, mentioned cocaine in the following Tweet: Notice Trump sniffing all the time. Coke user? — Howard Dean (@GovHowardDean) September 27, 2016 You are being very, very mean to coke users RT @GovHowardDean: Notice Trump sniffing all the time. Coke user? — robert hosken (@bo7b) September 28, 2016 Trump may have allergies: Allergies are the most common cause of chronic sniffling. This time of the year (August to November) ragweed is the most common culprit. Mold and fungi are other common possibilities in September and October. Trump may have chronic sinusitis: Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses, which blocks mucus drainage, which, in turn, may impair breathing. Allergies can lead to chronic sinusitis. So can growths in the nose like nasal polyps as well nasal defects such as a deviated nasal septum. Viral, bacterial and fungal infections are also common causes. Heartburn, otherwise known as gastroesophageal reflux (if you haven't watched all the pharmaceutical commercials about heartburn that may give you heartburn), can also cause chronic sinusitis. Add cystic fibrosis and immune system problems to the list too. Trump may be irritated by something: This could explain the slightly constipated look. Common irritants include perfume or cologne, cigarette smoke and air pollution. Cold weather and bright lights can also cause irritation. Trump may be taking medications that cause sniffling: Medications that have sniffling as a possible side effect include blood pressure, birth control, antidepressant, antipsychotic and erectile dysfunction medications. Delivering medications to the nose can also cause irritation of the nasal passages such as steroid nose sprays for allergies and shoving Viagra up your nose. Trump may be pregnant: Less likely but if this is the cause, he is probably in his third trimester, and the sniffles should resolve within a few weeks of delivery. Trump may have a tic: Note this is not the bug, which is spelled tick. Trump does not have ticks as far as I can tell. A tic is an involuntary muscle movement, meaning that it is not deliberate. This would probably not be a simple childhood tic because Trump is not a child, age-wise. Tics can occur when a person has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), myoclonus, obsessive-compulsive disorder, epilepsy or Tourette's syndrome. Anxiety and stress can also lead to tics. Trump may be crying: Debates can be tough. People who are very sensitive or strongly empathetic and sympathetic can also be prone to crying. Trump may have repeated head trauma: Blows to the head via sports such as football, boxing, soccer and ice hockey, or hitting your head with a brick over beauty pageant winners gaining weight, can cause irritation and even leakage of brain fluid into the nasal passages. Trump may have picked his nose too much or too aggressively: Nose picking can irritate the nasal passages and even lead to nosebleeds. Trump may have bleeding problems: Anything which decreases the ability of blood to clot properly, such as use of aspirin or blood thinners, and bleeding disorders such as hemophilia, can lead to nosebleeds. Trump may have something up his nose: Children often jam objects such as beans, peas and peanuts up their nose, which in turn can irritate the inside of their noses. Some adults do this as well. Thus, sniffling, a runny nose or even nosebleeds should not automatically translate to cocaine use. (Remember, inhaling glue, "whippets" or "poppers" can also result in chronic sniffles.) Again, no one has presented any other evidence that Trump uses cocaine. Trump's sniffling is now officially not a one-time thing. If it had just occurred during the first debate, he could have had a cold or other momentary infection...or maybe a defective or smelly microphone. Now, something in the list above probably is the reason for his chronic sniffling, with allergies, irritations or stress being the most common possibilities. Or maybe Trump is just a really, really sensitive guy.
