The comments I've seen from some non-journalists on some of my journalist friends' Facebook pages have been shocking to the point that it makes me wonder just why my friends are "friends" with those scumbags in the first place.

Very possible. As it's been pointed out, this nut had a years-long feud with the newspaper he attacked, so my guess is that Trump's attitude toward the press probably didn't have anything to do with this particular incident. However, some of the comments I've seen about this shooting are most certainly rooted in the President's comments and rhetoric, though.
This. Who knows at this point what all went into Ramos’s motivations. But the fact that Trump supporters are cheering him on and laughing at the massacre is quite distressing.
That is an understatement. What does it say about who Trump is enabling and America in general that anyone would celebrate the murder of five innocent human beings. Despicable. Utterly despicable.
While it is not good that people are cheering a mass murder, and Trump is most certainly a shit stain, you have a loooooooonnnnnngggg way to go to prove Trump caused this shooting. I, for one, want to know more about the motives of this Ramos guy and what convinced him to do this. In the meantime, Trump is still a dangerous fucktard and his rhetoric is at best irresponsible and self serving and more likely just the worst kind of shotbaggery. His followers remain blighted on this country but let us make sure we have proof before we claim this is his fault because we all know if one person is wrong it will blow up in our faces and he will exploit it.
I’m not interested in proving Trump caused the shooting, as I do not believe that he did. He has however contributed to an atmosphere in which the media is perceived as the enemy, and an attack which targets members of the media is celebrated by his followers. He had a long-standing grudge against the paper that started when they accurately reported on his guilty plea to a charge of stalking/harrassment of a former love interest.

This Ramos guy is sounding more and more like a lone nutter. I know one guy who is a butter and half expect him to eventually pop. He is 43 has always lived with his parents, can't hold a job because he's an idiot as well as being lazy, and he was kicked out of not one, not two, but three schools for sexual harassment and stalking of women who were nothing more than casual aquintances. It sounds like this Ramos is in the same boat; just an autistic fuck who cannot function in society.
I’m talking about two different things: the shooting itself, which Trump did not and could not cause; and the gleeful response among certain of his supporters, which Trump did have a hand in creating. Shooting = not Trump’s fault Response to shooting = partially Trump’s fault Clear enough?
