The opposition has risen up against the police and foreign mercenaries from Africa which Gadaffi hired to attack pro-democracy protesters. Those are the same two groups which opened fire and killed over 200 people in Benghazi but Gadaffi's side has fleed the city and protesters now control the streets. Supposedly there are now large protests going on in the country's capital of Tripoli.

I just don't see Gadaffi lasting much longer since he's lost control of the country and even military people turned against him in Benghazi. That Gadaffi's son and heir is going on western media claiming the country will cease to exist without him and his father just shows how weak they are. They've been reduced to making ridiculous emotional appeals.

I for one am proud of the people in Libya. :salute: It takes cojones to protest in the streets when heavily armed mercenaries are on the other side, ready to blow your head off. Now this is courage! I can only laugh at our juvenile left-wing hooligans here who play hide and seek with the police on every Labour Day, feeling like big rebels and heroes while crushing some shop windows... They'd piss their pants in Tripolis right now! The protesters in Libya and elsewhere in this region are risking everything. For freedom! Strange that EP -who talks about freedom all the time - doesn't applaud this, but licks the balls of a tyrant and murderer like Gadaffi.

Is Gadaffi the ugliest world leader on the planet? Someone introduce that boy to a razor and a can of shaving cream.

Report: Libya air force bombs protesters heading for army base

Gadaffy showing everyone how's it done. I hope this only serves to piss more people off.

No, you're the assclown always bashing Israel and how they handle the Arabs/Muslims when they revolt while being a defender of the Arabs. Funny how much different the Israeli response is than their own leaders to their own people.

The Israeli response is repressive. I condemn that.
The Arab dictator response is repressive. I condemn that too.

I'm not seeing any inconsistency.

It is your comparison. Israel has never sent bombers to bomb people marching in the street. Israel has never sent tanks to open fire on unarmed masses of people marching without intent to do harm. Israel responds with restraint and limited force compared to how Arab/Muslim leaders respond. You don't acknowledge that.

Mainly because it isn't true. The idea that I'm required to adopt your line on Israel in order to criticise Arab leaders is bizarre.

^ Really, please state and link to examples where Israel has sent tanks and/or bombers against unarmed protestors in the streets and have fired/bombed them.

Shit. I thought firing machineguns and mortors into crowds was bad enough but using jets to attack protesters? That has to mean he doesn't have the ground forces left to challenge them so he's trying to find the one and only way left for him to strike back. Gadaffi is certainly going out with style but the latest massacres will just encourage more people to rebel since Gadaffi can't regain control of the streets.

I don't want to speak for RickDeckard, but: Israel is a highly developed society full of educated people. When you ignore the rather extreme faction of the orthodox jews, of course... ;) (I've read that there's a lot of tension between secular and orthodox jews in Israel, btw.) It's no miracle that there must be different standards when it comes to comparing arab nations and Israel. From Israel, some people just expect better than from backward muslim countries full of fanatics and analphabets and with a long history of repression. Me for example.

However, of course the Israelis never dealt with their enemies in such a inhuman manner like some Arab states deal with their own people or they would deal with the Israelis if they could... No doubt about that.

On topic: Is there a possibility that NATO forces could crush the Libyan airforce when these assholes start bombing the revolting masses? I don't think so, but imagine Gaddaffi makes his airforce bomb the hell out of the protesters and thousands of people get killed... Would NATO react? What would Europe do? Ok, the last question is purely rhetoric, we all know the answer.

Fuck, there are European politicians who critisize the revolt in Libya because of the expected masses of refugees. That's all they worry about. So much for superiority of western culture and the importance of freedom and human rights... "But, but... All these dictators bring stability to the region...! Who cares about the freedom of Libyans?" Disgusting  Of course there will will be problems with refugees, thousands of Tunesians are trying to enter Italy right now. But what about the so-called western values which distinguish us from these "muslim barbarians"? In the eyes of the people who are protesting right now, the Europeans must appear like the worst hypocrites ever.

You're the one who brought that specific and rather exact analague up, not me. It remains that Israel has behaved in ways that I consider unacceptable - and I suspect that you're well aware of what those are.

Anyway, back on topic, it now looks like Gadaffi is finished. Rumours are abound that he's left the country, parts of the army have joined the protests, and even his senior comrades are turning against him.

Nobody would have predicted any of this two months ago. It's amazing what power people have, and they don't even know it.

I don't think that's so. I'm hearing that Gadaffi is due to make a statement from Libya shortly. And Venezuela is pleading ignorance.

Good for Libya, and especially the defecting fighter pilots. I don't know what will come out of this chaos, but the end of this dictator is a positive step.

I do hope they won't change the flag though.

When a cleric rises to take the Colonel's place as leader of Libya, then the protests will be silenced. The exact same thing would happen here is the people were to rise up and try to overthrow Obama. Anti government groups are always called extremists in the USA.

Look, all I am saying is that If I was King, I would take a few of Gadaffi's customs under advisement. I got written up in the Air Force for saying that Gadaffi has a thing for hot women and that can't be all bad. You have to admit, If you have to be guarded by body guards....
