If you know where he lives, going over and banging on the door would not be out of order.

Got a mutual friend, then, who can go over and bang on his door for you?

Or, if you have reason to believe he's in danger somehow, you can get the cops to go check on him.

Yeah, why waste board space with this crap? Reach out and touch somebody, Wahine. Or, just maybe, if Kyle wanted you or anybody else here to know what's fucking him up, he'd let us know.

Sorry to "waste board space with this crap." Unfortunately the only way we communicate is on MSN, so when I couldn't reach him there I thought I'd post here. If I had his fucking number I would have called instead of posting here.

Did Kyle imply he was suicidal? You know where he lives, if it's something like that, you should be calling 911 and/or his parents. And as Marso said, is there anybody else in your MSN community that can contact him more directly? I'm just thinking if the only way you have to connect with him is here or MSN, you might have too casual a relationship to warrant this kind of concern. Remember, what he said here, was nothing very significant. He probably just wants to enjoy some time off the grid. Good for Kyle!

Sorry. It just pissed me off beyond belief that the many parody threads posted every day are just fine and concern about a board member is a waste of space.

Anyway, I didn't feel the need to call 911 or anything because I *know* there's nothing to worry about. I just... worry anyway. It's what I do. o_O

I take it he's at home with his parents? If you are truly that worried, find his parent's number using one of the plethora of online telephone directories and call them up. But, if you really think it's serious, call your local police department's non-emergency number and ask to speak to a supervisor or detective.

My sister talks to one of my aunts - who lives roughly 600 miles away - on a regular basis. When auntie missed one of the regular phone calls, sis called the local police and asked them to check... They found auntie watching the TV, having forgotten that she'd unplugged the phone when she wanted to watch one of the soaps in peace... :jayzus:
The police were really nice about it...

Anyhoo, wahine, let us know when you get in touch again.

Sorry for disappearing like that Nic. I had to go to the hospital.

On Thursday, I woke up with some very nice, sharp lower abdominal pain. I thought it might just be the stomach flu for a while, but after I threw up and it didn't do anything for the pain, I decided it was soemthing else. Since it was getting to the point where I was becoming immobile due to the pain, I headed to the hospital.

Forest Grove's hospital was - surprise! - ineffectual, but they got me on some morphine faster than had I gone directly to Tuality Hillsboro. The doctor at FG wanted to run a CT scan on my abdomen, and since FG doesn't have one, he shipped me over there (free of charge, no less, which amazed me). Hours and hours later, the CT scan proved what the doctors expected - I had appendicitis. It took 'em about an hour to get their act together enough to do my one simple request of getting a phone so that I could call my folks about it.

The first night in the hospital wasn't so bad - I had gotten so little sleep due to the appendix waking me up that day that all they needed to do was kill the pain and I was out of there. Friday was weird, though. It took 'em until three in the afternoon to get me into the OR, though my aunt who lives out in Tillamook came and kept me company. She was, incidentally, a nurse, so she helped explain why some various things were happening. I've never been put under before, and the last thing I remember is the anesthetician giving me a relaxant of some sort, not the actual anesthetic. Next thing I know, I wake up with a bunch of holes poked in me, a kinda sharp pain now on the left side of the body (which, oddly enough, matched up to the holes), and a pair of cuffs wrapped around my ankles that quickly inflated every 45 seconds to prevent blood clots. I was now sans-appendix!

After getting me back to my room, my mom showed up, having made it over as quick as she could. After the hospital started getting antsy about visitors at 9 PM, she went to my apartment and cleaned everything up, which was very nice of her. The cuffs (which I affectionately referred to as water wings due to their appearance) prevented me from doing a lot. Like moving around or, say, going to the restroom. Turns out my body is too damn well trained in urination etiquette to use the bottle they wanted me to in bed, and I had to get the nurse in there to disconnect me from everything so that I could stand up and take a piss. Combined with a kind of dull headache from the anesthetic and the pain in the left side of my stomach, it was not a night for sleeping, though I managed to get an hour or so in after they switched me over to Vicodin instead of morphine.

Today was just rest and recovery. It hurts to go from sitting or lying down to standing and vice-versa, though it's getting better. Mom's out getting us a couple of movies to watch right now.

I'm sorry I scared you with disappearing like that, and thank you for your concern for me Nic :). Hope to chat with you soon! Also, thanks to everyone who gave Nic advice!

My appendicitis was not taken care of nearly as smoothly as Kyle's, though I did get into the OR a lot faster.

    Edit:Aww screw it, I'll elaborate.

It was my friend's 19th or 20th birthday, and I was headed to his house with my girlfriend at the time and her mother was driving. Two days prior I left school early because of stomach pain went home and vomitted up the contents of my entire stomach, felt a bit better and slept the rest of the day. The next day I felt about the same and stayed home. In the car I was pale, sweating and hunched slightly with an arm around my stomach, but bound and determined not to miss my friend's birthday. Eventually the decision was taken out of my hands and she drove me to the clinic.

The doctor at the clinic performed two tests, both painful in different ways. The first was to press directly on where the appendix should be, which as he did he asked, "Does that hurt?"
Of course my reaction was yes, but he persisted and pressed again asking, "Does this hurt?" After that on went the glove and some clear liquid at which he asked my kindly to roll on my side. Hey doc, think you should by me dinner first.

After that they sent me acrossed the street to the ER at the hospital. They admitted me quickly and had my in a bed ready to insert the IV- problem was they couldn't find a decent vein in my right arm so they had my lay upside-down in the bed (feet at the upper tilted part and head at the bottom) so they could get my left arm. After another half hour or so I was wheeled in the OR staring at ceiling as we passed through the double doors- just like in the shows. There were about 7 people in the room, and one of the nurses was by my IV talking to me and putting a needle into it telling me it was an anesthetic and asking me to count backwards from 100. Before I turned to look at the clock and begin counting backwards she said, "You have very pretty eyes." I murmured a thank you and counted- 100, 99, 98, 97..... and that was it.

As soon as my eyes had closed they opened again and I was in a place completely foreign to me. There wasn't a single recognizable person in the area and the one nurse that was on night duty was staring at me because I went from corpse-lloking unconscious to bolt upright in my bed asking her where the hell I was. She didn't even answer, but called my family in from the waiting room. I sat for a minute waiting and then my mother, father, stepfather, girlfriend and her mother all came in to see me and after a minute takling to them I passed out.

I woke up the next morning, my father was sitting in the chair doodling in a notepad on the table. I kinda coughed, murmured to let him know I was awake. He talked to me told me where Amy was- she had gone to go sleep at my friends. So the rest of the day he stayed and talked with me, talked to the doctors with me and helped me understand what was going on. I was on morphine and lots of it.

Turned out my appendix was so inlfamed it was pressing on my other organs and bulging ready to burst. Rather than make several small incissions to get into my abdomen they had to make one 6 gash across the area where my appendix was because they couldn't fit any of the cameras or anything else in due to the inflammation. It came out cleanly, but they had to put such an intense local anesthetic into my body that my digestive system wasn't awake yet and that I would have to stay in the hospital until I had a bowel movement because I wasn't allowed to eat until my digestive tract was awake.

So I spent 5 days in the hospital, with a morphine feed system that worked everytime I pushed the button and then was locked out until a specified time. I figured it down to the second that the lockout was only 3 minutes, so I was pretty doped up most of that time. The first day was in and out all the time because of the lingering anesthesia, but after that I almost always had someone with me or nearby. The third night two of my friends dropped by with a card that was comprised of 4 pieces of paper my friends had all written all over telling me to feel better and other personal messages. On my fourth night a large group of my friends stopped by and hung out for a little bit.

I had seven staples across the incision to keep it closed and after I left the hospital I had to stay under close watch for another week so I stayed at my grandfather's. I played and beat TLOZ: The Windwaker that week. After that I had my staples out and went back to school. I wasn't allowed to carry more than 20lbs and my backpack was right out, so I got a pass on taking home books for the next two weeks.

All in all the only painful part was before I went to the OR, but the fact that I was so stubborn that it could've killed me threw me for a bit of a loop.

You have the same clinic doctor that I did? Pretty much the same thing happened, though he had a bit better bedside manner when it came to jamming fingers up my ass.

Because I came in earlier than most, they could do the laproscopic version of the surgery. That's also why they could wait to get me into the OR. But I certainly understand your position - I felt really awful about going to the hospital at first, because I was really afraid I was just blowing a stomach bug out of proportion.

The doc was checking for a characteristic of appendicitis called "rebound tenderness". You press on the right lower quad of the abdomen where the appendix is and see if it hurts. If the pain increases as you release the pressure (the "rebound"), it's a strong sign that the appendix is hot.

I was in the 2nd grade, and I wasn't feeling well. I had a fever and I was throwing up.

I stayed home from school, and my aunt took me to the doctor.

The nurse looked at me, and called the doctor, he checked me out, and they admitted me to the hospital right away. Apparently we had waited to long, and it was really swollen. Since I was only 7 years old, it seems tat I was one of the youngest patients they had at the hospital for this type of operation.

The nurses were always checking on me, telling me how cute I was......

Man, I would give anything to get that kind of attention now.....

Just FYI, since the date stamps can be easily missed - I've been out for about two weeks now. Everything's pretty much healed up, though I can still get some pain if I contort my body in a goofy way that makes my body scream "Whoa there boy, you ain't got an appendix anymore, slow down!" Where the cut into me is almost completely healed and still feels a little tender, but nothing concerning.

Thanks again for all the concern. More rep to Wahine :IMHO!:
