Romney makes a joke about nobody ever asking to see his birth certificate, while campaigning in Michigan.

I get what he was trying to say, but the moment you utter the words "birth certificate" you wade into a hornet's nest of stupid that's hard to get out of.

Also, while nobody has asked to see Mittens' birth certificate, many people have asked to see his tax returns.

    And we're still waiting.

Mittens is just desperate now. That's why he's playing to racism by lying about the work requirement being taken out of welfare reform and playing up to the birthers. Even he knows he's going to lose so now he's going to lie, cheat, steal, and suck up to every loony fringe group in a vain attempt to prevent the inevitable.

Actually, I take part of that back because he's been trying to cheat and steal for over a year now by changing voting laws in a partisan manner in an attempt to suppress the vote. The guy just doesn't pass the ethics smell test to become President. Flush that turd down the toilet.

I see the tax returns crowd the same was I see the birth certificate crowd. Simple logic says he is never going to release those tax returns because he stands to gain nothing by doing so; Simple logic says that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii because there is adequate documentation of the event.

    1. If Mitt releases his tax returns what will happen? The Democrats will have several weapons to pick apart and attack him with. He could lose some of his supporters as well. If he doesn't release them the current supporters remain in his corner and instead of the democrats having several weapons they are left with just the one, "Why won't he release them?!" weapon. So asking for them to be released is completely ineffective and does nothing but waste everyone's time.

    2. Long form, short form, news paper announcement, doctors and nurses that were there... what else do you need? He's American, he is the legitimate president. This one has been beaten to death. Only conspiracy loons that are so devoid of credibility like Black Dove believe it. Anyone else bringing it up is just another partisan drone.

All good points, but the thing is, is Romney creating a red herring, or does he have something to hide?

Now, the "something to hide" could be that his accountants have actively violated tax laws or it could be as simple as the fact that he's so far removed from the process of completing tax forms that he has no idea what's on them.

If either is the case, it comes down to whether you want a POTUS who is oblivious to the hands-on work of the office.

If, on the other hand, his handlers have advised him to stall on the tax forms as a misdirection away from something bigger, that's whole 'nother bucket of worms.

The birther jokes could be part of either.

Really, what is he waiting for? To be found in contempt of Congress? We need his tax returns to fix the economy!

Honestly, I think he has lost many people in the center due to his refusal to come clean on his taxes and even worse is they can play video of Mitt's dad telling everyone not to trust a politician who won't come clean on his taxes.

I don't think there are many people in the center to lose. The majority of the public are firmly entrenched on one side or the other. Very few of them actually think past what Fox News or CNN/MSNBC are telling them. They are either going to vote for Obama or they are going to vote for Romney and short of a wild card scenario like one of them being caught on video snorting coke with Kim Jong Un and having gay sex while aborting a fetus and declaring he hates the Mexican's and the Irish can't be trusted, their votes aren't going to change.

People are in one of the 4 following buckets:
    a) Dumb and believe that one of the 2 big parties are on their side.
    b) Have given up on politics and just vote for the lesser of 2 evils.
    c) Like me, would rather write in a vote for a libertarian than support either major party since they are essentially the same.
    d) A member of the 1/10th of 1% and win no matter which person is elected because they own so many congressmen and senators that their pork projects and tax loopholes won't ever go away.

That's the point...you just took it at face value...no matter how ludicrous it sounded...and believed it because it was about someone who's ideology you disagree with.

I mean, come on...if he had actually said that, it would have been huge news all over the place, not tucked away in e-mails and obscure blogs.

How could you not? If Romney had really said something like that, he would be done.

There are many good points to make about why Romney shouldn't be president. We don't need to use patently false material.
