Ah, so from what I gather instead of posting normally in the Red Room I should have posted a thread here along the lines of "LISTKEEPER, what the FUCK is your goddammed problem?"

Listkeeper - would you really have closed that thread? What's the rule on that - thread starter's request? I seem to recall a few other people asking for threads to be closed and people telling them to get over it - it's the RR.

If you had actually understood that thread, you'd know that as a staff member, you don't undercut other staff members. That's reserved to Tamar and Elwood...and Elwood doesn't think too highly of the practice at all.

He was questioning your comment because it didn't really jive with how the board is usually run, IMO. I agree that we should try to keep that stuff in here, but it wasn't like he was being a dick about it - just questioning. I think moving the post out of the RR was a little much. Just my opinion.

And I was asking a question in public, because as a poster in the Red Room I thought it was worth knowing the answer to, because if I didn't know what possible reason there could be for closing that thread then I doubt many other posters did as well.

The rule in any case is Moderator's Judgement... every case like that is going to be different. In this case, the thread had a very serious and personal purpose and needed to be chilled, but not closed. Had Storm asked in this case, yes, I'd have closed it and split off the commentary so the bickering could continue.

To me that says "Do what Storm says or I close this thread", you even said that you didn't think Storm wanted the thread closed, but that you would close it anyway if discussion continued.

Yes. And by saying what I did, I got the exact effect needed, without actually closing and splitting the thread, as I'd already discussed with Storm.

Sometimes threatening an action will keep a thread under control. He has the discretion to make that choice.

If he had actually closed the thread he would be in here with some 'splainin' to do. Being the Red Room things are rarely closed. When a thread starter wants a thread kept on topic, we will entertain splitting out the off-topic stuff into it's own thread more often.

We try to keep moderators questioning each other's actions in here as often as possible because undermining each other's authority just makes it harder for everyone. Even so, the way Bailey questioned you Listkeeper...I don't see how it really undermines you. The way he worded it seemed inoccuous enough.

That question with that wording at that time would have taken the thread in a direction I was trying to avoid it going, so...

...so you edited a thread to change something not because it was against any rules, but because you wanted it to go in a different direction?

Honestly, I've no problem with keeping critcism of specific mod actions/policies in here, but what you are saying sounds odd.

Tamar feels your post was innocuous. I didn't. So far as I'm concerned, your post interfered with me doing my job, so it got moved here.

That's your judgement given you are mod the the RR, but I will never understand the mindset where a question can be considered harmful.

I'm having a hard time even following this one . . .

Edit . . . Oh, okay. Should'a read the other thread first, I guess.

I think you over-reacted a bit, Listy. But Bailey, the dynamic changes when you join the dark side here. It's nice to take questions/disagreements/arguments with other mods out of public view until resolved, or the next Shelter thread release. It's not so much a matter of us-against-them or "Eliteforge" as it is not giving the trolls any more leverage than they already have.

Why is Listkeeper in charge of the Red Room anyways? No offense listkeeper, but your modding style is a bit heavy handed, which is IMO, totally inappropriate for the Red Room.

Without jealousy guarding his supposed "inside knowledge" and innuendo implying that he's smarter than the rest of us, Bear wouldn't have much else going.

    Welcome to The Shelter, Bailey.

So why not put him in for Green Room instead, it matches his style a lot better.

That is reaching..and I mean reaching to the point of your hand is going to be on another plane of exsistence soon.

Your job is not to control what is said in the Red Room except under very limited circumstances. Questioning your actions is not one of those circumstances.

That thread was not one of the very rare Red Room threads that don't follow Red Room rules...it was not an emergency, personal crisis or illness or anything like that. Storm did not even ask for special consideration for his thread.

It is not your job to just decide a thread should be moderated and make it so. People questioning your threats is not interfering with your job. In no way does it stop you from doing what you need to if you must. Yes, Elwood doesn't want policy discussion in the Red Room and it is the respectful thing to do for Bailey to address his concern over PM or here in the Shelter...however you could have just as easily simply reminded Bailey and everyone policy discussion doesn't belong in the Red Room.

I know your heart is in the right place Listy, but sometimes you can be overzealous and can over-react. A trait I recognize as I occasionally have the same issue. :backhug:

Elwood had good reason for putting Listkeeper there and overall he does a good job.

We all make mistakes. Being a staff member is an ever-evolving process...something you yourself should be very familiar with.
