    Unemployment rose to 9.2%.

I wonder what black jesus is going to do now. Probably make a bunch of meaningless speeches.

He'll just call it another "bump in the road" and wail about how bad it was before he took office. It's worked fine so far with the choir.

The stimulus was too small and poorly targeted.

Of course, unemployment is not going to improve while deficit cutting measures are going on. Those will reduce consumer demand further, and the result will be more job losses, with stagnating and falling wages generally.

I hope the President and Democrats in Congress are listening to you. I hope they ram an even bigger stimulus through this year and abandon all deficit-cutting measures in favor of spending even more borrowed money to "create jobs."

That will be the nail in the coffin.

If only there were a way to force those evil corporations to hire more people, and set arbitrary price limits on consumer goods....

Much of the trillion dollars went straight into the back pockets of those who were already hoarding cash. It needs to be spent directly on job creation and on mortgage relief.

I'd love to hear what, exactly, the government can spend money on to directly create jobs.

How about this, instead? A one year-long payroll tax holiday. I'm sure you'll abhor that idea since it involves businesses keeping more of their own earnings.

$53 billion for "tens of thousands" of jobs.

Yeah, good start. Let's say 40,000 jobs just to be fair. That's $1,325,000 per job. Great idea.

Not enough of it. Much of what they're calling high-speed rail isn't really such. And they're outsourcing much of it to foreign companies.

 Great idea. Let's spend billions to build something that will never be self sufficient, is not needed and will require continual gov't subsidies forever. That is the essence of socialism.

    You and socialism are :fail:

It'll work if you take away everyone's cars, or take steps that indirectly lead to cars and fuel being ridiculously overpriced, while undermining consumer purchasing power with an oppressive tax burden.

HSR in the US would wind up costing more than a flight and taking longer to get there. Only people as dumb as Rick would think spending money on this disaster of an idea would work.

Ah, but there's no need to leave something so important at the mercy of something so trivial as freedom of choice or market competition. We'll keep those prices down by subsidizing it heavily with progressive taxation.

At $1,325,000 per job no less even allowing for a 40,000 job creation figure (which is, of course, way too high).

Well, unfortunately each and every time the government has tried to spend its way out of a recession it hasn't worked. The government doesn't create jobs. People do. The people who own businesses do. The very same people you like to villify.
