    Source (:vomit: )

Okay, I exaggerated the title a bit. :diacanu: Still, it's disturbing to see how fantastically well we've helped the heroin trade by occupying Afghanistan.
We spend millions and millions to fight the drug trade yet here we are, in the mother of all drug-suppliers yet we do nothing to stop the growth of opium.
We could save ourselves a lot of money, police time and LIVES if we root out the drug at its source, so why don't we?

I still say we'd probably find it cheaper in the long run to allow the Afghans to grow it, buy it off 'em for the same they'd get usually and then burn the stuff. At least it wouldn't be lining the pockets of terrorists, and we'd have less of the stuff coming in to get folk addicted.

So does this mean I will be paying less for smack, or not?

Seriously, I agree with what [m]matthunter[/b] said, only don't burn it...tax it, fund the hunt for Osama with the profits.

Do the brits remember what to do with it?

You ship it to China, demanding silver in payment. Then you pay the Chinese the silver back in exchange for tea.

Surely it hasn't been that long since someone in the gub'mint read Tai Pan?
