Just wanted to remind yaz. Been a lot of Isreal, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, hell, fuckin Europe shit. Saudi Arabia doesn't seem to get a fuckin glimpse. "Hey, they're out dealer, shut up, shut up".
"Isn't there anything bad you have to say about Saudi Arabia?!" "Well... sometimes they don't use lube."
The reason bin Laden chose mostly Saudis for the 9/11 mission was to engender distrust between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is an ally in name only. They are among the worst with the madrassas, the sharia law, and fundamentalist islam. I understand our being in bed with them from the standpoint of national interest, but I don't condone it nor would it last long in the Marso administration.
Yes it could. It could hurt very badly. So badly you will need a gallon of Preparation H just to sit down.
To what end? It has been my understanding that Osama went against his own family, and seeks to overthrow the Sauds, because of their particularly close relationship with certain Western factions, as well as the U.S. government in general. It might be possible to engender distrust on the American side against S.A. at the same time they vilify the Saudi regime as American puppets, but that seems like an overly complicated plan.
The lands of Saudi Arabia are very important territory for Islamists. They contain the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Incidentally, they also happen to be some of the most oil rich in the world, which gives an Islamist movement a potential revenue stream. Not really. The Saudi royal family does not enjoy widespread support among the Saudis (who have become poorer as revenues have increased). Islamism is also fairly rampant there. It may not take much to push the country into revolution, a revolution which would almost certainly benefit the Islamists.
If they somehow hoped to advance this agenda by causing Americans to become distrustful of Saudis, I'd say things didn't work out for them. Most of the American people don't care to make distinctions among the nationalities of the 9/11 hijackers, even if they could remember them correctly. Yes, and it seems more likely that one of the long-term goals of 9/11 was to provoke the kind of response that might work to alienate the Saudi people from the U.S. and their own government which aids and abets American actions. That would be the kind of thing that has a lot more to do with the feelings of Saudis than the national origin of some hijackers.
Most of the 9/11 hijackers came from planet Earth. George Bush invaded planet Earth. Bush is a brilliant strategist.
Shit, we'd better occupy it forever, or the terrorists win. Also, they breath air, so we'd better stop, cuz that's just what they want.
