I'm keeping cable until Samantha finishes with maternity leave then I'm done. I lived without in in Shreveport for a year and didn't miss it one bit. I'll consider rejoining when I can pick and choose channels but I'm not going to be paying for stations like MTV any more.
Aaaand right here: ....is where you lose me. Sexual repression != "morality." This whole idea may be crude and classless, but if everyone is of consenting age, there's nothing "immoral" about it. Oh, and.. No lectures about "mental health" from anyone who considers it "healthy" to go long periods without any kind of sexual release.
Your disconnect is in your belief that valuing one's body and saving something special equals repression. It does not. It also strongly correlates to the moral values of the people involved.
Who is the target audience? If it's 20 somethings then fine, even 18+ is fine. But MTV is aiming at 12-18 and that's where I have a problem with it. And to my point earlier, if I could opt out of having MTV among plenty of other things I would opt out of and pay less while not having to opt out of channels like History and Discovery to do so I would. Thanks cable companies for offering no options. I'll keep my $100 a month.
MTV wants to pay someone to watch them lose there virginity? "OH, I swear Im a good canidate for your show"
I really wish that cable and satellite providers would have a la carte options. I only watch a handful of cable channels.
A La Carte Order: 1. Western Channel 2. Cartoon Network 3. Disney/Nickoldeon 4. Fit tv 5. CW......Damn you Supernatural 6. AMC....Damn you walking Dead 7. Lifetime......Damn you Dance Moms Thats all I need
TBS TNT(would get it but don't need it) Comedy Central Discovery History H2 NatGeo ESPN ESPN 2 ESPN Classic or whatever it's called now Fox Sports NFL Red Zone Those channels and my locals are it, and if it came down to it I would probably lose TNT and NatGeo unless they were pretty cheap.
It's either adults, or juveniles who are the responsibility of adults. Either way, nobody who should be depending on MTV for lessons in "morality." This is just another variation on the theme of "Nobody should get to watch something I disapprove of, and I shouldn't be burdened with monitoring my own child's viewing habits to prevent them from seeing it."
Yep. I prefer paying for content (content I like) directly. Either through buying the series or subscription services (Amazon Prime in our case). Between dropping cable and moving back to Seattle (where there are multiple nonprofit radio stations) we've almost completely cut out advertising from our lives. AND IT'S GREAT! Fuck the ads! Yeah, we plunk down $20 to KUOW (me) and $20 to KNHC (Anne) a month for the radio, and then $80 a year for Prime but it's worth it IMO.
I hadn't watched MTV for 10 whole years or more. Just deleted it off the channel menu, and didn't look back. ...until.... ..the new Beavis & Butt-Heads came out. ...*shakes head*...you really can't go home again. B&B make fun of "Jersey Shore", instead of videos, and Judge's politics creep into it, and...bleh... Re-deleted.
I don't have cable anyway. Maybe it'll show up on Netflix or Hulu some day. Otherwise, . Lotsa shit I'd rent on DVD before that.
Because you don't think Romney's going to push for a religious agenda, or because you're not voting for Romney this week, or because when an idiot calls someone else an idiot it's equivalent to a double negative?
I agree about cable. Most of it's shit, so why pay for a full subscription just for three or four shows when I can get these same shows on Hulu or Netflix?
Yeah I'm considering do the same as well. Im about fed up. Oh and if you decided to get it again so your son can watch the Disney Channel or Nick when he gets to be about 8 or so...don't. Call me a cranky old fuck but more and more I am convinced that those "tween" shows do more to fuck up kids than just about anything else.
We have to have cable in order to have internet. I almost never turn on the tv though. I usually watch shows on the 'net.
I don't think there's anything wrong with suggesting a show is wrong that subconciously encourages mostly under 18 y.o. kids to lose their virginity. I agree that it is the primary caregiver's responsibility to raise their child, but I wouldn't want to have to worry about my daughter or son signing up for a show that documents their cherry getting popped. Plus it's just fucked up
I'd double check on that. Comcast certainly didn't like that I was going Internet Only and I had a couple scriptmonkeys try and talk me out it, eventually almost calling me an idiot for not 'saving' by 'bundling' but they will let you do it. I'd double check with your provider.
