My Thoughts on All The Drama

Yeah, I could'a posted in an existing thread, but since I'm an attention whore anyway, I get my own thread.

Wordforge has taken some hits these last few weeks. Some of our members have been banned (righteously, for the most part), some have stomped off in a huff, some are laying low, and a couple are continuing to poke things with a sharp stick in the hopes of more drama.

I'll not recap . . . we all know what happened. Let's look forward.

Shelter thread releases: some positive steps have already been taken, but I think we need to adopt the release-when-resolved strategy to foster a greater degree of transparency. If a Shelter thread goes, say, 10 days without a new post, we can assume it's run its course and can be released.

Observers. A good idea that seems to have gone a little stale. I think we should rotate some new ones in. Phantom of the Net, Caboose, Summerteeth or TKO might be good choices. I'm sure y'all could think of more.

Related to that, I think those former staffers who are staff no longer should lose their Shelter access. Except for Cass/Aurora, who as founder should get special consideration IMHO. This would help break up the "eliteforge" thing, or at least make it a bit more difficult to take seriously.

Staff: we need a new Admin. Tamar is off playing Wrathful Goddess for at least a little while, so someone needs to step into that spot and be Elwood's deputy dog. I don't want the job, as I don't feel I can give it the time and attention it needs. Lurker might be a good choice. And similar to the Observers, we need to rotate some new staff in, I think. Mrs A I assume still wants off, we've lost a couple others recently, and at any rate a bit of shake-up can be healthy. For that matter, if you want to de-mod me I have no objection, tho please note I am not asking to be taken off.

Problems: I'm gonna be blunt here, so excuse me if I bruise some feelings. Listkeeper/Bear and Nick are simply too heavy-handed to be dealing with the members in any sort of mod/policy capacity. They instigate ill will without even seeming to realize it. Bear is of course off the staff except as chatop, and Nick should limit himself to technical issues and refrain from making admin/policy statements in public. Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

In short, my view is that he who mods least mods best. We have a simple ruleset here, so we should also have a light touch to go with it. Don't be afraid to smack the 'tards should the situation call for it, but make sure that the situation really does call for it.

Finally, I think the structure for the staff should be Elwood, one Admin as deputy, about four or five supermods to roam the whole board, and two tech admins. That oughtta be enough to cover everything.

If you want to rotate me out, then that would be fine with me. Like Bulldog, I don't feel like I'm contributing anything that I couldn't contribute via pm if any of the staff wanted to know what I thought.

I've been thinking about that, but I'm going to choose very, very carefully because the next Admin will be the Heir Apparent. My resignation is on the table, I just haven't dated it yet.

Hell, it took me a good few minutes to merge two threads yesterday, because I had to make sure I was't mucking it up!

It can be really confusing...and as bad as the SM panel is...the Admin panel is worse. I was just starting to get a semi-hang of it. Even so, sometimes it felt like looking at Greek.
