    Any time I saw Nancy Reagan on tv she appeared to be mildly stoned, very much in the manner of a recovering pain-pill addict. That blank, dazed expression is very typical of regulated narcosis. Her speech mannerism, always weak, flat, and unemotional, also reflected the drugged state.
