I don't have a big computer or tech store ala Best Buy or Circuit City nearby, so I need a place to secure a decent DVD burner for my PC. Hopefully one under $50.

I have an older PC - some 4 year-old Walmart HP Pentium 4running XP that my folks gave me when they found the internet to confusing.

I have some USB ports, but not that original XP CD* (I may be able to borrow my ex-father-in-laws) but/so as plug and play as possible would be great. External would be a great plus but cost is the greater factor - cheaper the better.

*(Sometime without this I have been having trouble lately installing new hard and software.)

Anybody have any suggestions on a good online source to secure one of these? It's be much appreciated. I have videos for my kids (who's mom has a PC with DVD player/burner but no broadband - yet) and I'd like to make 1/2 decent videos for them until I can afford a proper DVD recorder/DVR for my tv set.

Mostly now I burn stuff to .avi files on CD and take then to her computer, and we watch them on that...but it's not as relaxing as watching from the couch on the big TV - and her DVD burner is not working she is being very VERY reluctant to let me much about with it since her current husband (they are separated - have been for years) uses her PC a lot for [-]homework[/-] games and porn and is ALWAYS messing it up *seriously* so she doesn't trust me either. (Too bad using hers would save me *TONS* of cash right now if I could just burn the avi's to DVD's at her place..)

    Much thanx!

Newegg.com. If you can do internal, you can get them for $25 +/- 5.

I'd say chances are, the tech is so mature these days that you can simply take the cheapest one. Doesn't sound like it'll do heavy duty shifts anyway

Mine was around €30 btw and has never let me down. I think it's a Sony.
