https://theprint.in/world/how-sri-l...rming-has-led-to-an-economic-disaster/728414/ Sri Lanka is headed for economic collapse after effectively banning non-organic farming. Whoops. Will they reverse course and save their crops... probably not.
The data against organic farming has been particularly damning of late. Turns out that it's not particular good when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions. That being said, some of the ideas behind organic farming are worth following. Fertilizer runoff tends to be lower than what you get with conventional farming. Also, not only do widespread pesticides do things like harm beneficial insects like bees, but farmworkers are often not given proper PPE when they're exposed to pesticides and herbicides.
It seems there were other factors at play in SL's economic crisis. But yes, reforming a vital industry overnight is bound to lead to chaos.
