Flow is going to get me a new phone at the before Black Friday sale, available Samsung galaxy s2 Motorola razor maxx iPhone 4S What say you wordforge?
The S2 was a good device, good screen. My gripe with it is with all Samsung phones. The radios. The things that actually make a phone a phone. In short, they are less than excellent. If you are in an urban or developed suburban area, you'll probably have no problems. Go rural, go into areas with spotty coverage, etc.. and you may find yourself with out a signal. In short, great device, not so good phone. Razr Maxx. Motorola was on to something with this phone. However it wasnt until a year later with the intriduction of the Razr Maxx HD that they got it 99.5% right. So far as a phone you cannot beat Motorola. With a Motorola you can get a signal where others get nothing. Each of the kids have a Maxx. They beat on them like red headed step children and they phones are still going strong. It's flavor of Android Ice Cream Sandwich is about as close as you can get to stock android. IMO that is a good thing. Too many other manufactures skins get in the way of the OS and do little to enahnce the stock android experience. For example Samsung with their TouchWhiz and HTC with their Sense skins. The camera isn't the greatest. For some the screen resolution / color saturation isn't the best while others are quite satisfied. Like I said, the kids haven't complained. They love the battery life. Of the three phones here, I would go for a Maxx as it best meets my needs (battery life and signal). I'd be willing to sacrifice on the camera. iPhone4S? Lots of folks seem to be satisfied with them. iPhones are not my cup of tea. I prefer the larger screen and freedom to customize, but they may work for you. Also it is a 3G phone, not a true 4G, so your network speeds will be slower than with the Maxx or G2. If you are considering a used year old phone then I would also suggest checking out the HTC Rezound. Honestly too many people ignored this phone. Great radio, great screen, good camera. The only problem was its skin. Most people either love or hate Sense. There is rarely a middle ground.
My guess is that they are off contract and want to stay that way. Add to that the idea that a year old phone like the ones I mentioned can be had for some where between $250 and $350 (in my area) Vs. $600 or so for a G3 or Razr Maxx HD or iPhone5 and it makes sense to save that way.
We use a local provider for coverage and service reasons, so let me reiterate that this sale is not on the latest and greatest, but what will be marked off this Friday. She has been tolerating her old HTC for months now, waiting for this sale. So no, no iPhone5, no Samsung S3.
Both the G2 and Razr do on Verizon. In fact the Razr line is only available on Verizon's network, though other carriers like Alltel piggyback on Verizon's network. The key is that the carrier has to be CDMA.
4G is probably not available where he lives anyway. I have an iPhone 4S, it's a really good phone that just works the way it is supposed to work. I actually prefer the smaller size compared with the GS2 because it fits so comfortably in my pocket. Customization should only be a concern if you are planning on actually customizing. I just like my phone to work. For me that is making calls, texting, taking pics, listening to music, emailing, light web browsing, maps, and apps for radio. All those things work perfectly on my phone. I'm sure they are fine on Androids too, but I prefer the interface of iOS.
Per this map there is probably a good chance that they do have 4G coverage. The thing is that we've given enough advice. She should play with both an Android and iPhone and see what works for her.
Just because it says we have 4g does not mean we do. I actually have no idea, I've never cared to find out. I do deal with Apple on a daily basis and I have an android htc desire right now. I don't need to customize beyond ringtones and that is not even a must. Sounds like I will b going with an I-phone.
You want the Samsung Galaxy S3. Do not settle for an old and out of date S2. Do not waste your money on an Iphone. Motorola has been tanking for years and I still have no idea why Google bothered to buy them unless it is an access to patents issue. The only handset maker who is more of a has been failure than Motorola is Nokia.
I disagree wholeheartedly. While I don't share frontline's enthusiasm for Motorola phones, I think they're pretty decent. My biggest gripe with them is how long it takes them to push updates, it seems regardless of carrier they take forever, to give a comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S2 will receive an update to Android 4.1 (released June 27th) at the end of this month, meanwhile the Droid Bionic just received it's update to Android 4.0 (released Oct. 19th of last year) last month. I think the really telling thing is who Google chooses as its Nexus partners, even before buying Motorola, they did not use Motorola as a hardware partner. Meanwhile Samsung has been chosen to make 2 out of the 4 Nexus phones (Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus) and 1 out of the 2 Nexus tablets.
i always take an LG when i get a free one every 2 years, but given the choices presented, i'd take the samsung over the motorola.
It really depends on which ecosystem you want to get locked into, Android or iOS. If you don't purchase apps at all, then it doesn't matter. If you do purchase apps, then the decision will have more weight. All the phones you listed above will give you about equal performance, so really, take them all for a test drive and see what you like best. Since they're all "outdated" the ecosystem matters the most, since you'll upgrade again in the future and will want to port over apps you've already bought. Personally, I think Android offers more flexibility when it comes to the handsets and future upgrade options. I'm also not a fan of Apple care and upfront costs associated with it. But Apple does do a better job of getting out system updates to everyone, instead of being carrier or manufacturer restricted. The one thing that annoyed me about iPhones (before the 5) was the screen aspect ratio. Most media today is 16:9 widescreen and the older Apple handsets were 3:2. So to me, that is a downside to the Apple phones before the 5. All in all though, it's six of one, half dozen of the other, I think you'd probably be happy with any listed.. so go with your gut.
If you paid for any of them though, you still have a license for them and can install them again on a new phone with more memory. They're linked to your Google account, and not the phone itself. All of the phones you listed, except the iPhone, have expandable memory as well. So if you ever find yourself with memory issues, you can add some extra down the road.
Meh, just get the one with the biggest screen. My Galaxy S3 takes up my entire pocket, but no one puts other stuff in the same pocket as their phone anyway. At least you shouldn't if you want to avoid those really annoying scratched screens.
You know, that's something I'll give credit to Motorola for. I carried my RAZR around in my pocket for months and barely got a scratch on the screen, my Galaxy S3 has not fared so well.
My HTC Desire has expandable memory, the problem is the new android systems take up so much of the internal memory and I can't move the damn OS to the card. So I have to periodically clear all cookies no matter how small. Which means I have to go through every damn application on the phone. All my pics and anything that can be moved to the card are already on it, but I still run out of memory.
My S2 is a year old now and I've not had a problem with its memory. Got a years worth of photos, vids and apps on it, plus all my photos and vids from previous phones. Got a small external card that I bought two phones ago and its in the back of my S2. No worries!
I also need it to work for two years as I'm pretty cheap. So I go for the two year plan. I have found that with my iPod or Flow's they just keep going pretty well. I might not like that I can't share information but I need something that will just work for a couple years.
What is it about cheap phones and morbidly obese people? This is not the line full of hipsters from the Samsung commercials.
