Dear American Hockey maniacs, I'm sorry, but... Thank you, thank you, thank you! Rick Nash is here, Thornton and many others... And our own guy, Mark Streit, has come home for a short time. Thx again! I'm sorry for the NHL fans in the U.S., but this lockout thingy is great for our own league! It will only last two or three months. Meanwhile, we will enjoy watching your hockey gods play in the Swiss Hockey League!
Enjoy the superior product while it lasts. Fortunately, I'm also a big college hockey fan, so I have that.
I have nothing without NHL. Knowing it's just around the corner is the only thing that makes football season bearable.
Nash and Thornton are very likeable guys. They both were already playing here during the last lockout. They had a good time, because they were not treated as "Stars" and had to their sports bags by themselves for once... They both enjoyed this whole new experience! The Swiss Hockey League is not that bad, there are many regular players here who have a have played in the NHL before. Pay is good, the atmosphere in the stadiums fantastic, etc... I'm more a soccer dude, but I'm also very interested in our hockey. It sucks that we have no good club in the area.
I wonder how many NHL Players will be in the KHL? Are they even allowed to do that? I guess if there's a lockout, they can play wherever they want.
I am quite bummed by the lockout. The Blues are primed for a great season! All the talent from last year returning, plus a full-season of Jaden Schwartz and also high-profile new addition Vladimir Tarasenko! I can only hope the lockout doesn't last TOO long, and they have a reasonably full season. But I doubt it. Lockouts take while to work, especially when you're locking out millionaires! P.S. Red Wings SUCK!!!!!
This lockout is a joke, just like the last one. American owners won't give a shit until baseball has ended and some NFL teams compile shitty records thus bringing attendance down. They hate competing with those sports at this time of year. All in all though, just a bunch of clowns who cry poor but sign off on $100 million contracts. And don't even get me started on that weasel New York lawyer Bettman. OTOH I kind of like the idea of a shortened season, players should be much more fresh for the playoffs and my liver won't be nearly as ravaged.
Hope you like it. Rumors from reliable sources indicate the lockout is over in the next week or so. Apparently they are negotiating on framework stuff and have gotten past the big differences.
Sweet. I read an article recently that (IIRC) said they were leaving the big issues to one side for the moment, though.
It's still awesome... Let the lockout continue! Your hockey gods are quite impressed by the atmosphere here... I follow them on Twitter. They love to play here. In the NHL, the spectators are are a bunch of bored slow coaches who think that hockey is entertainment. But hockey is WAR! Waaaaaaaaaaar! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_PNZcL9IU4&feature=related
Owners tabled a new offer today that I think includes 50/50 revenue sharing which is what the players wanted. Should the players accept, we'd get a full 82 game season starting Nov 2nd. I am......not very optimistic but at least it's something.
Patrick Marleau seems to think the league isn't bargaining in good faith: I think the players need to give a little so that the lower-end teams can have a chance to be profitable for the immediate future, so I guess I'm on the owners' side. But the owners aren't scoring points with me for dragging their feet as they apparently have been.
Yep, Europe is getting a look at the real deal. North American hockey > European hockey. Whereas we in the US and Canada are spending more time watching your typical level of competition. NCAA hockey = Euro hockey. :us: + :canada: > :eu:
Thx for the info, Captain Obvious! That's like saying the firepower of the U.S. armed forces is superior to the Swiss Army! Although there is at least twenty times less money involved in the Swiss Hockey League compared to the mighty NHL, we enjoy our hockey. And the NHL players enjoy it here, too. Because they love what they do. They are athletes. And the standard isn't that bad... Read about the NHL cracks and their experiences here on the web.
Which is worse press for the NHL: The cancellation of the All-Star Game, or Sidney Crosby being spotted at a Justin Bieber concert?
