Im having a bit of trouble deciding between A Few Good Men and As Good As It Gets. Im slightly more apt to say As Good As It Gets, simply because Im more apt to enjoy those types of movies. You just don't see them much anymore, and it's a little discouraging. Those feel-good romance comedies that were so good in that time, you just dont see anymore. The Holiday was the closest I'd seen in a long time. That wasnt a GREAT example, but it had more of the feel-good romance comedy than many movies now do. But then comes The Departed. Which was a fantastic movie, and Nicholson did fantastic in it. So right now there are three running fairly even, with As Good As It Gets being my forerunner by a hair. Opinions?
Oh yeah, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. That was a great movie. I remember watching it the first time and thinking "...Is that...Danny DiVito?" I knew Christopher Lloyd immediately, of course. But DiVito looked wierd, and I couldn't tell until I read the back of the case.
The Last Detail wasn't THAT great. It was entertaining, but it wasn't Nicholson's best, in my opinion. Though it was interesting seeing Randy Quaid in The Last Detail only after seeing Randy Quaid in Independence Day.
Yup. The fight scene in the men's room - all I'm sayin'. Oh, that and I saw it in first run, when as social commentary it was really cutting edge. Say, what ever happened to Randy Quaid, anyway? Seems like his younger, cuter brother is always working, but Randy, not so much.
As Good As it Gets?!?! As Good As it Gets?!?! As Good As it Gets?!?! Jesus! Try Chinatown, Five Easy Pieces, The Departed, About Schmidt, Batman, One Flew Over, The Shining, Prizzis Honour before mentioning frigging As Good as it Gets...
I'll second Chinatown and, while I realize it's a chick flick and a weeper and none of the characters are sympathetic, Terms of Endearment contains some of the best Nicholson one-liners ever: "I'd rather stick needles in my eye." and, on the lam at the airport when he sees Shirley MacLaine's car pulling up in pursuit of him, "I was inches from a clean getaway!"
Chinatown, yes. Five Easy Pieces, yes. The Departed, yes. About Schmidt, maybe. Batman, cool, but not the calibur. OFOCN, yes. The Shining, yes. But several of those I would never put before As Good As It Gets.
