Good song, but not a particularly great Bond theme. Too low energy. My least favorite of the Craig era. My ranking of the Craig era themes: #1 Chris Cornell "You Know My Name" - high energy, gets you ready for a very solid Bond film. #2 Adele "Skyfall" - awesome vocals, memorable song, a great opener for Craig's best outing. #3 Alicia Keys "Another Way to Die" - a fairly pumping if not terribly memorable theme from the forgettable "Quantum of Solace": #4 Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" - good song, good performance, just doesn't pump me up for the film.
Billie Eilish is an odd choice for a Bond theme. Her music is so grim, she's literally one Xanax away from slashing her wrists. Hmmm. "No Time to Die"? Maybe she is the perfect choice.
Based on the clips in the official music video, I think that they might be taking a slightly different tack with this film. Let's face it, finding a Bond to top Craig is gonna be real hard. While most of the Bond films have been enjoyable, Sean Connery and Daniel Craig have been the baddest mofos to play the role. And Craig, really is the best Bond to date. A very lesbian friend of mine saw him in Casino Royale (as opposed to the Woody Allen version) and screamed, "I would fuck that man!" So, it would make sense to do a send-off that is a bit somber, knowing that anyone else who follows is going to have a tough time not looking like Mr. Bean by comparison.
Their bigger challenge will be story. The Craig films are interconnected like modern franchises. Not like the one off adventures in the past. I’m talking at a character level. Not just common tropes or villains. When Craig leaves will they simply reboot again? Will they return to one offs? If they do decide to do a serial of films what will the plot be? Will they map it out or shit it out like the Star Wars ST?
okay, just mentioning Rowan for those who may be interested - no big deal. Regardless I just can't get into the Bond franchise. I thought the movies were okay when I was a kid, but tired of them. Same with Star Wars or just about any long term movie franchise.
Well, maybe Bond will have time to die later. The release of the new 007 film has been delayed to November, out of Corona virus concerns.
Y'know what's grim? Somewhere, there's a James Bond fan with 6 months to live, and now this last one is dangling just out of their reach.
I hate to be the one to remind you, but when you were young, and your heart was an open book, you used to say live and let live. You know you did.
Maybe they could do a for your eyes only screening for the dying fan. It might bring him a quantum of solace.
Right. Although tomorrow never dies and the fan may live to die another day, we have to remember that only diamonds are forever.
You guys are irritating the living daylights out of me. I vowed I'd never say never again, but sometimes I feel like I never want to visit this forum due to the ever looming spectre of shenanigans like this. The world is not enough for me to put up this stuff.
Well, it's not an awful song or anything (and it probably suits the theme of the movie), but, damn it feels like it was sung after taking a handful of valium. All mood but no energy, no motion. Not likely to be one of my favorites. My top 5 in no order... Goldfinger (natch, and probably the greatest) by Shirley Bassey... The World is Not Enough by Garbage. Great song, and is sung from the viewpoint of the Bond girl (not unusual), it's unique in that the object of her (manipulative) love is the villain ("And if you're strong enough, together we can take the world apart, my love...") For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton. A great song from Moore's best outing. "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell from Casino Royale. I didn't care for this one initially, but it's become one of my faves. "Nobody Does It Better" by Carly Simon from the (IMHO underrated) The Spy Who Loved Me. (edit: messed up Nobody Does It Better)
Addendum (because I can only put 5 media links in a post)... A perennial honorable mention for me is k.d. lang's song "Surrender" from the end credits of Tomorrow Never Dies. It's way better than the Sheryl Crow theme chosen for the intro.
The next 007 is in No Time to Die. Don't even mouse over the link if you're at all trying to avoid spoilers.
Eh, Daniel Craig’s run is done and they’ll likely reboot the franchise again. I’d take that with a huge grain of salt.
I read that the lead Scottish guy in the tv show Outlander is being considered for the next James Bond
Interview with Craig and others about the film. It's interesting, but not a lot of details on some things. Apparently, they've built some really elaborate sets that will only show up on the screen for a couple of minutes.
