Well, we all know the bowel movements of every single player in the impeachment process, we've occasionally mentioned the single largest shift in power in Europe in a generation and we've seen abortive gloating about the fall of a socialist government in favour of a military dictatorship favoured by Trump.

No, however, a squeak about the massive protests against the free market and privatisation of services in Chile which have brought the government to its' knees and resulted in mass violence against protesters.

Perhaps the idea that this is entirely explainable by the position a government may or may not hold on the political spectrum is overly simplistic (especially bearing in mind that the government certainly isn't especially right wing in any sense most of us would recognise other than economic) but the governments which were so quick to declare Morales a dictator despite him walking away to limit potential conflict seem to be remarkably silent about the state sanctioned excessive force currently being seen in a country crippled by the excesses of the free market.

NPR? Well aren't we the genteel intellectual? Just kidding I'm a fan myself. I can't stand local news & talk radio.....especially talk radio.
I end up screaming "GET TO THE FUCKING POINT JETHRO!" :shakefist: more often than not, with some of these callers and their long rambling meandering thoughts & opinions.

I always found Chileans to be to most civil and advanced of all South American countries - it probably has something to do with their German roots. Santiago's a great city, arguably the most modern in South America, hard to imagine over a million people in its streets

Seems like they've got themselves a referendum regarding a brand new constitution so well done I guess?

a word about chili - DELICIOUS! BTW I'm not a purist who insists that chili shouldn't have beans. All types of chili are welcome as long as they taste good and don't burn my mouth!

Yep. Today they were talking about how the UN Climate meeting had to be moved to Spain because of the violence and Greta Thunberg had to high tail it back to her boat to get back across the Atlantic in time.

It’s pretty chaotic. I’ve got friends on the ground from when I was an expat in Santiago. Some of them are looking to pull out.

Being how this is turning out it would seem without the fake outrage crew on the right pretending they are bothered because socialism has caused unrest in a country they don't give a fuck about, the reality that people generally don't care that much, including on the left, becomes obvious. Do we really think that republicans actually care about unrest in socialist countries? Of course not. They just want a talking point. Not for nothing, but there is a ton of awful things that we know happen every single day in the world that we simply cannot do anything about. From a psychological standpoint you just have to put it on a shelf because your personal world would fall apart if you really tried to fight against it all.

I am not saying it is right that it happens, but there is so much of it, and there is so much opposition to doing anything about it. We can barely do anything to get the concentration camps in our own country changed because of the republican love for harming brown people. If the people who are taking care of their families take off to fight for these other issues then their families suffer because their support is gone. So we have to rely on others to do something, but that is an unholy mess driven by a huge portion of our society who is sadistic and hateful.
