This is Nova's wife posting and typing, I have her on the phone and we wanted to clarify a few things for you. First we expect the first WC check this week they are paying 2/3 of my average pay. Second They have contracted a top shelf company to over see rehab they are trying to send me to one of the best spinal injury place in the country so I can't complain about wal-mart stepping up. Also I'm talking to a lawyer friend of mine who has dealt with wal-mart before on this kind of case so I should be fine on that. I'm sure you all wonder about my progress it's hard to give up dates because progress is so incremental but the prognosis for everything but my hands is pretty positive. It remains to be seen when and if I get fine motor control back in my hands. We can't post like this often but I want to say how much I appreciate your concern and support I will continue to communicate with Gul and Anc to keep you updated. P.S. I notice a comment about the financial situation at home that more a long term consideration than and immediate emergency but do be aware if it.
Thanks very much for updating us. Hang in there! It's a big relief to know that WalMart isn't abandoning you so far.
[Nova] walked in a walking frame Friday 180 feet 3 times [she] seems to be ahead of schedule on that in control of bladder and bowel which is suppose to be a very very good thing good range of movement everywhere except in hands hands still have a lot of pins and needles feeling from the chest down still a long way to go on the hands everything else is optimistic just a matter of regaining strength.
That sounds really amazing after so comparatively little time. Though it probably seems long if you're living it. Hang in there, Nova! Very glad to hear this, and thanks for the update!
This is Nova's wife again typing while talking to her on the phone. discharge date has bee change to the 25th of March, the doctor explained that the progress was so remarkably good that it was worth while to continue therapy to get the best results.
Message from Nova. I expect to go home on 3/21 walking with assistance from the therapist 540 feet at a time. not sure when I will get to walk unassisted but hopefully soon just wanted to update you all.
Nova needs some advice. Coming home on Friday and I'm interested in some kinds of device-program to do voice to text typing. any advice?
Coming home! Hurray! Dragon Naturally Speaking is absolutely amazing. I used it a lot six years ago when I had hurt my hand, and I still use it to transcribe talks I give. It's become even better in the recent editions. It also allows you to control most common programs with your voice. Having said that, Google voice recognition isn't half bad either until you get a chance to set up Dragon. Either way, we won't recognise your spelling!
Another vote for Dragon. Keep in mind that if price is an issue, there are a couple of us willing to pass the hat.

(being dictated) Okay, I'm sold on Dragon at whatever edition is the best for me without being over kill. I also need the best compatible head set and I suppose I need to consider if there are available memory issues I need to know about If anyone wants to supply this I won't say no but I'm not going to be hurt if no one does, I just need to at least know I'm getting the right thing. on another note, I have confirmed that I still have access to the paypal account that Anc mentioned. health report: last day in therapy- Thursday- walked independently 120 feet, navigated ramp with walker both ways and climbed steps. floor at home is much less even and level than there so still adjusting to that. strength is growing steadily but numb feeling from just below shoulder level persists. hands are very stiff and uncooperative but stronger every day, danger of carpel tunnel from over use of thumb and index finger also is a concern. on another note: while I won't drag up all the details of the various discussions of my family situation, I must say that everyone should be as proud as I am of the job my wife did keeping things going at home despite far to little local support .
You'll want the latest (that's 12.0) edition of Dragon Naturally Speaking Home, and a good microphone, such as the Sennheiser ME3. In my experience, it is worth it to get a good mike, though the much more expensive SpeechMike Premium that is sometimes recommended for DNS hasn't done anything to improve our accuracy at work, so I'd stop short of that.
2 questions. whats the difference in the OEM version and the GOO version? also is the headset which comes with some purchases worth having or is it irrelevant?
Don't know about Google’s, what's that? Doesn't sound sanitary to me. The headphones that came with my first version -- several years ago -- were okay, but accuracy went right up when I replaced them with a better set, so they weren't worth it for me.
the same search returned some that looked like this: http://images17.newegg.com/is/image/newegg/32-182-225-TS?$S300$ (described as OEM) and some like this: http://i.i.cbsi.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2012/09/06/191657-Dragon-Naturally-Speaking-Home-12.jpg
I'd probably go with this: http://www.nuance.com/for-individuals/by-product/dragon-for-pc/home-version/index.htm
Probably would help to post some info about the computer. Also, unpinning the thread, so long as nobody objects.
i don't know what info is relevant. could it be as simple as a usb adaptor...or does it need some sort of card? and thous are just random guesses - i have no experience at all here.
