I got a message earlier today from [Nova's wife], she is trying to get out to Nova today and should hopefully have an answer about Paypal. I've also asked if there is anything else they need right now. As soon as I get some answers I'll pass them along. I'll be out for much of the day so someone else may need to post the thread. When we do have more information I think a new thread needs to be started in the Green Room. Nova Support Thread or something. Have a quick summary of the situation, what people can do to help now, say the thread will be updated when new info comes along and then close with a little paragraph at the bottom that this thread is in the Green Room and is solely for sharing information and helping to coordinate aid to Nova and her family. All trolling is to be confined to the Red Room thread (link). Give warning that the moderation will be heavy handed and totally subjective, if someone even THINKS their post might cross the line it'd be best for them to post in the Red Room thread unless they are looking for a vacation. If someone decides to play, simply delete the post and any derived from it and ban them. Once this whole situation settles down (probably a week or two) they can be let back in. Pin a link to the Green Room thread at the top of the Red Room and unpin the Red Room thread. Thoughts?
Works for me. I'm thinking that we ought to have a contingency plan worked out so if this ever happens again (to any member), we're better able to respond if we feel there's a need. I know that there will be differences for every person this might happen to, so we can't necessarily assign Poster A to handle all contact with families when something like this happens, but having a good plan of action that we can pull out and follow in such circumstances is a good idea, I think.
Yeah, long term that's a good idea, something to work on. I've created a user group called "trolling scum" which revokes posting and most other privileges in the Green Room. A member should still be able to see the room and threads, but not create content. @John should take a quick look to confirm whether I've done it correctly. If so, we can then expand it to lock down group members from posting anywhere outside the RedRoom and Helpdesk. It gives us the option of coralling trolls without actual bans. That said, I don't think we will need it.
Shouldn't be necessary. The Green Room is also a no trolling room. And more people will see it there.
I'm not seeing the connection. Daycare confines trolls and tards to one forum. Gul's solution temporarily bans them from one forum IF they continue to troll in said non-trolling forum after being warned not to.
So Packard is either a mind reader or has hacked into the Shelter. Either way he should probably be banned. Near term, he started the thread I was talking about starting so one less thing for staff to have to take care of. If someone could please create a redirect in the Red Room to Packard's Green Room thread and pin it to the top of the Red Room, that'd be great.
No, quite different because it leaves them with access to our most appealing forum. Basically, if you are only here to troll, you are free to do so, but not outside the RedRoom. If you can't follow that rule, the user group makes it so they must. Anyway, I don't think we have much of an issue with people trolling outside the Redroom, we probably wouldn't need it. But I find banning so distasteful, I'd rather go this route for somebody who can't behave.
Done with this? I don't see anything that needs to be redacted so I'll release it as soon as somebody says okay.
