It is not going to be a full or partial lunar eclipse, but the moon should get a good shadow over it and it should be visible Friday night around moonrise in the US. It has been years since I have seen a lunar eclipse. I think I will have to pick up a hotel room on the beach and enjoy walking in the surf. It always seems I am on a beach when I see a lunar eclipse. I think I will have to head up to Vero to find a beach hotel that is not loaded with drunk and stupid on a weekend.
Me too --- always seem to fail to be in the right place at the right time, or there's cloud ... Light pollution is a pain in the ass for observing astronomical phenomena -- maybe not eclipses, but still. It's frustrating. When I win the lottery, I'm going to take a holiday in the Atacama Desert and just watch the sky go by. It's no wonder the Incas placed an ultimately suicidal faith in celestial signs. They lived so high they could see interstellar gas coulds -- you name it. Seeing the night sky must have been an entirely different experience from ours.
The moon had a bright aura early last night. I could see the ring here where there is so much background light. I have seen a few lunar eclipses. The first one I saw I was on a summer vacation at Virginia beach. The hotels actually turned off the lights once it started for the duration. I watched one down here I. South Florida on the beach. Those were full eclipse. I have seen a couple of others. It always seems like I am in the right place when I first d out about them. I actually was reading about the last one I saw on the internet and it was a couple of minutes in so I grabbed a couple of drinks and a chair and watched it from the driveway. This time I am getting a hotel upstate on a beach that won't have drunk miami trash on it and enjoying the weekend.
