LADY GAGA! Sadly, I'm not on Facebook and can't 'vote'.... And for starting this junk thread ....here's her latest video for Gaga fans.... [wyt=06/08/2010 - Alejandro]niqrrmev4mA[/wyt]
Something is a bit disturbing about a President having a "fan" club. In fact, that's one thing that's been rather grating about Obama since even before he was elected. For obvious reason, I expected him to get a bit more attention than the average candidate, but crap like Obama having a great relationship or not having fucked up children or him getting a dog from the goddamned fucking pound isn't news. There is such a thing as too much over-exposure for a CIC, and I wish the lines of President and Celebrity were a bit thicker with this guy.
The problem, however, the reason those lines can't be any thicker, is because he is only a celebrity and not much of a president. As president, he has done nothing noteworthy. He got some very contestable legislation passed, which didn't satisfy anyone, while continuing or worsening most of the policies of Bush which annoyed the rest of us and against which he himself campaigned. So he has nothing but "celebrity status." He certainly isn't going to go down in history as a great president, or even an average president. You can bet every nickle you have or ever will earn that he will be remembered in history for one reason and one reason alone: the color of his skin. Which is hardly any credit to his own ability to make something of himself.
I'm not a fan at all of Gaga but I watched a little of the video and can tell she at least has some talent in her field. She does have some accomplishments to her credit as well. Since you've made the comparison, though, it makes me think Obama's a celebrity the likes of Paris Hilton. Famous for being famous. I guess it was inevitable. Once we as a society started down that road it was only inevitable we start choosing leaders of that caliber as well.
It's just Facebook terminology. On Facebook, if you want to see updates to a page in your news feed, you "become a fan." (Actually, I think it might have been changed to "like" in the past month or so, but users still frequently use the "fan" terminology.) On Twitter, you become a "follower." It's just the lingo of the system; it doesn't mean he's established an Official Barack Obama Fan Club.
Don't get the fascination. Just seems like a completely unremarkable person, mistaking "make a freaky spectacle of myself" for "being unique and interesting."
