And yet, many of the insurers that will pay for Viagra will not pay for birth control pills. (Not the morning-after pill, not IUDs, just plain ol' take-one-every-morning-for-28-days-so-you-don't-get-pregnant pills.)

It would not be at all surprising to find out that those same insurers covered minoxidil for hair loss (as opposed to cardiac use) as well.

Like I said. Pregnancy is not a medical problem.

Which is why insurers often do not cover birth control.

Birth controls goal is to PREVENT a perfectly natural process from occurring.

Unlike ED medications which have as a goal to RESTORE a natural capability which has been diminished (most often by disease).

You say "medical problem"; I say "health issue." If men could get pregnant, all forms of contraception would be covered.

American women are a majority in this nation.

Why are you whining about what "men won't give you"?

Depends on your definition of "problem."
As I understand it, most insurers do cover birth control. Not only is it more cost effective than paying for a pregnancy, it's also prescribed to cover other medical problems. Some women with severe cramps take it to reduce them. Other women take them to reduce acne.
Heart attacks and strokes are perfectly natural processes as well. So is male impotence, later in life. So is death from all manner of lifestyle-related illness.

But you're okay with defying nature in those circumstances, because it's convenient. How inconsistent of you.

And a woman wants something in them that doctors don't even how works?

    Mind boggling

    Always an excuse.

What makes you think a woman will be any more interested in a "womans problems" than a man would?

I'll tell you a little story. When my wife was pregnant, she was advised by a number of people DO NOT GO TO A WOMAN OB/GYN.

Why? Because women are known to often be rather uninterested in another womans pain. They think "I dealt with this when I was pregnant, why is she complaining so much".

It turned out to be brutally true. My wife suffered through her first examination and would describe it to me as "agonizing".

She quickly switched to an older, male OB/GYN. And he treated her as though she were his own daughter with great care.

    Lesson learned.

That is the exact opposite of here. Although I loved my original doctor I switched to a woman and a woman's hospital for the second kid. I find women know more about the female body and know when to react to women's bodies better.

Not to mention women use smaller devices to hold the vagina open in examinations then men do....it matters.

Not a medical "problem" but a medical CONDITION - i.e. an event that will certainly require ongoing medical treatment in the future. Potentially very expensive or even dangerous treatment.

Or are we pretending that pregnancies don't occasionally cripple or even kill the mother?

    Cool story, bro.

The very words you use ("What do you want men to give you?") says you believe it - whatever it is - belongs exclusively to the segment of the population whose sole qualification is a set of hairy balls, who may or may not condescend to dole it out to the rest of us. Get over yourself.

Interestingly enough since my mother left me some money, I'm getting some repairs done. One of them is my ACL in my knee. There are two fees: One for the doc (I get a 30% discount if I pay cash on that) and one for the place where he'll be doing the operation. He told me we'd be using a private facility because, since I'm doing it out of pocket, I won't want to blow a lot of money: "If we scheduled at a hospital you'd be paying $10,000 just to step in the door." The cost for the place I'm going is 1/3 that.

Don't worry. I can always start another. I have the week off so time is not that big of an issue.

Besides, its fun to watch certain people fume and snarl ineffectually while they take the time to make impotent neg reps.

Viagra isn't used to prevent pregnancy, so yours is an apples and oranges argument. You should know, however, that insurers that don't cover birth control pills also don't cover condoms, either.

The reason for a medical treatment is between a patient and their doctor. That was the whole Sandra Fluke deal, her friend was denied medical assistance she needed because it could also have a contraceptive use.
