I do a lot of pet/house sitting One of the dogs I watch is obsessed with water. Water and rocks actually. Anyone else experience this?
Aw sad, He may be bored. : ( I can imagine that with these people's lifestyle. http://www.cesarsway.com/dog-whisperer/episode-archive/season-2-episode-1
My uncle had a pit bull that would start barking and jumping up and down whenever we turned on the water hose. She'd also continue to drink from the hose until we turn the thing off.
One of my dogs whenever he sees an airplane, he actually tries to catch it. He will bark and growl at it, and snap his jaws at it trying to catch it. And one time when the ISS did a flyover he saw it and did the same thing.
Last weekend my dog finally learned to stick her head underwater. When I got her she was 2 and couldn't swim. But for a lab mutt that is fairly quickly remedied. Throw a tennis ball out into moderately deep water and while she is splashing along on her hind legs, trying to get to it, just stick an arm under her belly and lift her back legs off the bottom. Now she can swim fast enough to almost catch a duck. But she wouldn't stick her head underwater. Well when we're at the beach, bigger sticks are better. This time, bigger also meant waterlogged. I tried to throw her the stick she'd been playing with but she'd have none of it. So I picked up the one she'd selected. As I expected, it sank like a stone. But the water was clear enough that she could see it. So she wouldn't leave it. But she couldn't quite get it. Eventually I went in search of a branch to fish it out for her. By the time I got back, the log thing was up on the shore. And after that she'd stick her head underwater to get it. Oh, she didn't enjoy it, but if she had to, she would.
We've a duck retrieving sorta dog. Naturally takes to the water and fetching things once. Yep. Just the one time, after that she seems confused, can't say I blame her it's sorta like I'm throwing the duck back.
I had a cat that was obsessed with water. We had several at the time and we used a large ice cream tub for their water. I can't tell you how many times I caught him in that thing. Just in it. Chilling. More times than not, he knocked it over before he could get all the way in.
While not obsessed we had a cat that was indifferent to water, she'd often cruise right into the shower just to see what's going on.
So, for the first seven years and eleven months of his life, Lou the Beagle hated water--hated playing in it, hated baths, and would probably have drank soda just to spite water if he has poseable thumbs. So while I was overseas, my mom took him and our boxer to the local creekwalk. Or boxer, being the curious creature she is, decided to literally leap in into the water--and struggled to get back out, cuz thanks to her unique shape, it's hard for her to swim even in shallow water. It was then that our beagle decides to calmly walk into the creek. My mom was astonished, because not only did he actually volunteer to get into water, but actually played in it for ten whole minutes! Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after that, so neither she or my brother could catch this on tape again. But I think it also helped that Lou was on some much-needed doggie Xanax at the time this happened
My dog hates water. He rolls around breakdancing on the carpet like I've doused him with battery acid any time he goes out in the rain or gets a bath.
