It won't be reversed, but I'm gonna guess that when people compile unofficial lists of perfect games, Harvey Haddix is now going to have company in asterisk land. And, well, lets face it: more people remember Harvey Haddix than remember Charlie Robertson.
Seven innings, two runs, four hits, no walks, fourteen strikeouts; I'd say that lives up to the hype, so far, and if you own Strasburg in a non-keeper fantasy league you have no excuse for not trading him immediately and totally fleecing someone.
That's actually a pretty easy question to answer. In any event, Strasburg had a spectacular debut, and absent injury or regression he'll be one of the best pitchers in the league. The chances, however, of injury or regression for young pitchers have always been disturbingly high. Strasburg could be Nolan Ryan with better control; he could be Dwight Gooden; he could be Mark Prior; or he could be any of dozens of young pitchers who dominated for a year or less before blowing out their arms.
Dear Atlanta Braves, Thank you SO much for your thoughtful trade. http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10318395&topic_id=8878984&c_id=tor Respectfully, All Blue Jays Fans
On behalf of all Braves fans, you're welcome. He was obviously not happy here, maybe he will be happy up north. He was one of my favorites until he decided he didn't care anymore.
What a weird feeling. Berkman has been a celebrity in Houston since his days at Rice. It's strange having him gone. Won't it be neat when Roy O and Puma face each other in the WS this year?
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?affiliateId=facebook_share&content_id=10465835 The Giants are fun to watch this year. It's great anytime the hated Dodgers lose.
How's Seattle liking the Morrow deal? 8 2/3 no hit innings, complete game shutout 1 hitter with SEVENTEEN strikeouts, against the Rays today. Bill James' scoring system ranks that as the 4th best (tied) game pitched in the majors since 1900. : That on the heels of JP Arencibia having perhaps the best rookie debut for a hitter in the history of the game yesterday (most total bases for a debut game ever). Sweeping the Rays...after taking 2 of 3 from the Yankees. Maybe the best weekends of baseball for the Jays in over 16 years.
where's Chuck bragging on the giants? Anyhow, counting down the days until Cito and his lame rationalizations for not playing the kids are gone...and until Jose Bautista gets totally ignored by MVP voters despite having over 40% more homers than the next closest guy (and virtually the sane OPS as the likely winner)...and 'til Doc gets his ring. (Seriously, who wants to go through Halladay/Oswalt/Hamels in the playoffs?
I'm liking that the Yanks pitching is falling apart and it looks like they might not win the division. Be nice to see them ditched in the first round so that the Yankee Asshole fans can go into full panic. (also fun to see AJ Burnett taking the brunt of it)
Indeed. He just threw only the 2nd post season No Hitter ever. He was one walk away from another Perfect game. In other news the Rangers get their 2nd playoff win off all time today. An excellent day in Baseball, especially if the Yankees lose later.
My favorite tweet of the night: For 15 million baseball fans, it was the greatest postseason pitching performance of their lives. For Doc, it was Wednesday
I can't decide what would be more satisfying - watching the apoplexy in YankWorld if the Yankees miss the series altogether, or watching them go only to have doc Yank their spleen out with his bare hands. So conflicted!
The two best years in baseball this decade were 2001 and 2004. In 2001, the Yankees fell to the Diamondbacks in a seven game World Series. Should have happened in five, but hey, they got lucky late in two games. In 2004, the Yankees made history by being the first team to ever go up 3-0 in a playoff series and then get swept for the next four straight games to lose. Even sweeter that it was to their perennial rivals, the Boston Red Sox. I would absolutely love to see Doc Halladay destroy Yankees batters the same way Randy Johnson did it in 2001.
The best thing to happen in baseball other than the removal of steroids in the last decade was the Colorado Rockies incredible run a few years ago where they won 22 in a row (or right around that number) just to get into the playoffs. They got to the series and lost but it was a legendary run.
San Francisco has to be thanking Bobby Cox's stupidity right now. The guy has a player (Brooks Conrad) who has seemingly made an error in every single game for the past 2 weeks, including errors that already almost cost the team it's playoff spot in the last weekend of the regular season & two earlier in the current game, and instead of lifting him for the guy who was put on the postseason roster to be a defensive replacement he leaves him in to commit his third error of the day, the screwup that gives the Giants the game.
