The MAGA attempt to make it harder to approve constitutional amendments in Ohio has failed.

The move was an attempt to head off an attempt by non MAGAts to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.

Looks like it's going to be a hell of a margin, too.

Gotta be frightening to them. They have to be wondering if the jig is up. It probably isn't: those who would elect Gym Jordan are a powerful force in Ohio, but it's got to be concerning for those who wish to rule as opposed to those who would try to govern. :)

    From Cleveland.com

With 1.1 million votes counted, Issue 1 trailed 61% to 39%, a margin decisive enough that the Associated Press called it even as more votes have yet to be tabulated.
Issue 1 opponents, including organized labor groups and abortion-rights activists, declared a cathartic victory at a firefighters’ union hall in Columbus Tuesday evening.

This is a truly awesome quote:
Issue 1 backers, gathered at another location in Columbus, haven’t yet conceded the election.
Mike Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life, told CNN on Tuesday after the race was called that the coalition in favor of Issue 1 had not yet given up, saying “we don’t think the race should have been called this early.”

Uh, whut? You need more time to stuff ballot boxes? :chris:

Jordan's district is so heavily gerrymandered that it might take a while to shake him loose. Especially with all the other fuckery that the OH GOP has been doing.

It will be a delicious irony if the "No" votes wind up being more than 61%, because that would mean, even if it was in place, it could have been repealed. Oopsie!

Ohio also elected Ted Cruz, Jr. in the form of assclown J.D. Vance.

Next up, if Michigan's Proposal 3 is any indication, are commercials claiming that the abortion-rights measure will let doctors come into your kid's school to sterilize them.

"Advance votes, which are cast by mail or in-person before Election Day, broke heavily for No, about 70% to 30%. More than 700,000 votes were cast before Election Day." --AP
Any guess as to what comes next in the ongoing attempts to disenfranchise "those people"? :brood:

I know people in Ohio and I know they helped reject the Republicans attempt to punish women.
