Word on the street is that AOC is going to try and primary Schumer in the upcoming election for his senate seat. It would be a good barometer for NY state as well: is half the whole state as galactically stupid as the voters in AOC's congressional district? Tune in and find out! I hope it happens. That'll be a cripple fight worth watching- the only regret being that both of them can't lose at the same time.
Remember that New York's politics at the national level are entirely determined by New York City. The rest of the state (which is actually fairly red, btw) might as well not exist.
NYC is not the only blue in the state. You have to recognize the red counties may have blue dots that are far more populated than the red areas. This is because of things like college towns and northern cities. The college towns have a large population of employees and locals who are blue. Of course, without NYC and the bigger cities NY would be as fucked as places like AL. Without that commerce and taxes NY is nothing so the red areas should have nothing.
They don't want socialists to win. The DNC should change their slogan. "Socialism is such a bad idea, even we don't want it."
