This might belong in the RR or even WF Labs, but I'm sticking it here out of defiance All this DMR stuff is getting a bit silly now, isn't it?
Especially when you consider that some bright lad usually figures out how to bypass or crack the DMR protections almost as soon as they're put out for use.
It's totally twisted how they think this should work: on the one hand they are trying to sell us great entertainment systems that can do cool things like store DVDs on a home server and beam them all over the house and stuff. On the other hand, they are working to prevent exactly that and legislating that buying the movie (multiple times) should be the last lawful act you can ever perform with it. There is only one way to stop this: don't buy it. Of course in that case they'll blame pirating and build in even more DRM Personally I think we're seeing the last of it now. They are fighting a battle they cannot win in the long run.
Which is what I don't understand. Everything that has been tried has been cracked. Why keep trying? Give up on it and look for ways to make money the new way. The Internet is here and soon everyone will be highspeed. Might as well get in front of the pack now and learn how to make money off the wave before it passes you by.
Think a minute. It makes money for the originator. He knows it will be cracked. But he is getting paid for it. The movie industry and such save a few bucks till it gets cracked, probably enough to make back what they paid the person who make it in the first place. Its all about money.
