Because the set designers and modelers thought it looked cool. :bailey:

On that note, I recall reading that in the beginning, the Cylon base stars were supposed to be two giant triangular shapes rather than two giant round shapes connected in the center.

Not unlike how the Cylon base ships were in nuBG.

that's because nuBSG was a far superior vision as well as being better written, acted, and every other metric.

the only thing it lacked was CGI John Colicos as Baltar's daddy

Your link says nothing about bridle catchers on base stars. :bailey:

Because the Cylon Raiders we saw in the TV show were 10th Gen. fighters that didn't need need launch bridles, but the Base Stars were 4th Gen. Carriers and had never been upgraded.

No, the links purpose was to show what bridle catchers were. I was looking at a model I have of the original base stars and I went back to several clips from the show and noticed that they clearly have what appears to bridle catchers at the ends of what we saw in the series were the launch bays for the Raiders.

Yeah, but since you offer no link or picture to show what you’re talking about on the model, the topic has no point.

The real answer though, is this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greeble

This is the "original" design for the Cylon Basestar.
