Most of the damge path in North Mississippi was about 25 miles from the town where Shep and I are from. Major devastation in Union County, which is the county south of us. Daughter worls at Wal Mart there at least 4 tornadoes went close to it. She has a chilling video on her cell phone that shows a big tornado almost on top of Wal-Mart. It was quite a hectic night and early into Friday morning. So far no reports on the sizes of the tornadoes or injury and death reports that I have heard, although unsubstantiated reports have the big one at an EF-3.
as an addition to that there is this http://www.djournal.com/pages/story.asp?ID=272752&pub=1&div=News
I had the fortune to visit that area a month or so ago. Wide open country for a tornado. Yeah, that is not rich people country either. I hope they recover soon.
If there's a "silver lining" in all this, early warning and better communications are saving more lives every time. That IMO is the most important thing.
I'm not trying to sound unsympathetic or anything, but ask her to post it on Youtube so we all can see!
I'm pretty sure there's some kind of federal law that requires that soundbite to be used in any tornado story.
If she will agree to it--after all it is her video---and I can figure out how to do it I will. Ill check and see if its been posted already before I do . As soon as I can I will upload some pics that we took. Very few things I have seen in my life that make me just drop my head and say---daaaaammm
there has been a video posted on you tube from the west side of the tornado but I dont know how to add it here. Somebody help me with that and Ill see what I can do
that one was taken west of the tornado---and weathermen say we could have more headed our way this week. I do love Dixie in the springtime
I guess I'm lucky...Atlanta gets some bad storms (140 million in damage a couple of months ago) - but here in Augusta tornados or severe storms are pretty rare. Yet just acroos the river in South Carolina they get bad storms. Weird how tiny differences in geography affect weather.
we havent had an actual tornado on the ground in the western part of the county where I live since 1979--but the rest of the county and the surrounding counties have all had them---not that I aint complaining. And as far as the cyclone goes--The US Gubment will probably send more relief there than for any tornado hit area
