Neither do we. We are not saying that pedophilia is a wonderful thing a la NAMBLA bullshit. All we're saying is that people when accused have the right to due process, to defend themselves against the accusations.

I do not understand why a simple accusation is proof enough. People's lives have been utterly ruined from false accusations and allegations. Why does the mere accusation of it require people's rights to be taken away? There are other groups of people who harm children as well, and others who kill children. There's a thriving black market for the sale of children into slavery. But for some reason, they don't seem to result in the same utter rage that mere accusations of pedophilia result in, and for some reason, it seems that mere accusations is proof enough to deny these people their constitutional rights. Mere accusations should never be proof enough.

The law just can not work if only some groups have the protections while others don't.

My problem is that we sometimes turn a blind eye to pedophilia.

Show of hands here: How many people here have talked about how hot Emma Watson is? How many people out in the world talked about how badly they wanted to fuck pre-legal Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen? Or Britney Spears? Or Lindsey Lohan? or even here on WF with TKO?

We sometimes put blinders on regarding that stuff because it's safe and, to some extent, normal. I'll admit, I saw a girl walk into the clinic I was at today, and from behind I thought she was smoking hot, in this uber-short workout shorts and little tank-top. Then she turned around and looked to be all of about 13, or 14. Does that make me a pedophile? No, I'd be disgusted at the idea of doing something with her.

But we all, I think, have those occasional thoughts. And, while I haven't looked at the websites Tamar linked, I'm guessing they are something along that line?

Some people have urges that aren't normal. Furries, S&M, a variety of stuff. We can't really help what turns us on, and if someone is turned on by little kids, I feel sorry for them, but we can't punish them for how they feel. We can, however, punish them if they ACT on those feelings. Which those sites apparently dance right up to doing. So I'd agree, watch them. But pre-emptive strikes, so to speak? I dunno. Maybe these websites are a way for these people to release the sexual pressure without becoming criminals? In which case, coming down hard on them might be forcing some people into actually committing crimes?

That's why we have to be so very careful about this stuff. The accusations will ruin a person's life, and unless an actual crime is committed, we can't, and shouldn't, punish someone for how they feel.

I recall back about 20 or 25 years ago, a local elementary school principal and his wife were getting a divorce. Sure as shit, she accused him of molesting their daughter. The man lost his job and had to leave town.

The wife later got caught during the divorce hearings. Turned out she made whole thing up trying to burn him.

Bottom line: it was all over the local papers, the principal lost his job, and his reputation was ruined, all over a lie.

THAT's why you wait for proof.

I can appreciate that. Proof is indeed needed to avert the destruction of innocents, I wholeheartedly agree.

In the same vein, those proven to be so should be severly punished.

Sometimes just a trip to the joint will handle that as Dahmer can attest.

Oh wait, he can't anymore. All the better.

Aye, but with these websites, they're giving clear indication of interest... Which is in itself a clear indication that professional intervention of some sort is in order.

What the hell are you going on about? You do know that kids who are molested or raped aren't ALWAYS murdered afterwards? And do you ever think why some pedophiles might kill their victim afterwards? Because of people like you and Marso, wanting to string them up by the nuts just for looking at a child for a split second.

The problem of child predators is vastly overstated, mainly by people in the government who want more control over our lives, and assholes on TV who want to get better ratings. The most likely person to molest or rape a child isn't some fat internet slob who has to travel 2 hours just to see his victim, as on Dateline. The most likely person is someone close to the victim, such as a family member or friend. You need to kill yourself before you start molesting anyone close to you.

The kind of invasion of privacy I meant was wiretaps, 24/7 surveillance cameras, and other things of that nature that some people seem to want.

While I understand your point, it's not technically pedophilia, unless they are pre-pubescent. It's ephebophilia (sexual attraction to adolescents). I think it might be less punishable, too (and IMO, it's far less morally bankrupt to lust after a 17 year-old compared to a 7 year-old).

As I previously stated, pedophilia is considered a mental disorder. They need help, not the worst punishment available. You wouldn't execute a retard or someone with schizophrenia or depression after they killed a guy, would you?

I agree - the links to those sites need to be removed, immediately. Elwood, it's a liability issue. Your site shouldn't be linking to them.

Anybody here that clicked any of those links is a pedophile, and I am going to report you to the authorities.

No, strike that. I won't report you. I've got a map stickied at the top of this room. I'll just take care of you myself.

    The links are not illegal.

The whole point was to foster a discussion about this disturbing gray area between the law and what is clearly inappropriate behaviors and to someone not inclined to their thoughts, frankly disgusting fantasies.

Some of these people are on their way to doing the deed...with the internet and some of these people self-proclaiming their desires there could be a chance to make sure the crime never happens. What can and should be done?

I'm not about to post links to kiddie porn you know. So far thought and discussion is perfectly legal.

That was kinda my point. Pedo's are bad, but all this clambering to kill people who haven't broken any law is worse.

Wait for them to try to break the law and blow their brains out, but for crying out loud, calling for death on freaks just for being freaks is wrong IMHO.

My personal view is that since they saw fit to announce to the world their desire for children and in some cases hint about making contact that they should be monitored in some way.

It is just difficult to find that balance between rights and irresponsibility. If one of those people who brag manages to rape a child and it could have been stopped...that would be even more tragic.

It's the responsibility of the parents to protect their child, not the government. Monitor their internet usage, don't let them go outside alone, don't let them go out after dark. You can't rely on the government for everything, unless you enjoy living in a nanny state.

    :ohnoes: :ohnoes: :ohnoes:

Wanting to do something about ticking time bombs means a nanny state!

    Everyone always leaps to extremes.

Oh....and the blame the victims thing is nice too. I guess it's the parent's fault their child's picture was put on the internet without their knowledge for having the audacity of taking the kid to the county fair and not being able to look everywhere at once to be able to catch the sleazoid in the act. They deserve to have their kid masturbated over by fuckos with hard ons.

Let's not stop this kind of thing because by God that sick fuck has a right to do what he wants as long as he didn't touch the kid. :jayzus:

Then you should support hate crime legislation since you support thought crime legislation.

Why must adults' rights be trumped up in order to protect the child? Why does a child deserve such special protections that adults don't have?

So lets ban abortion and other things that endanger children's lives while we're at it. Why does pedophilia only deserve to be treated this way? Why is it more of a henious crime than abortion since that actually kills children? Why not ban racism since that harms children? And let's not allow homosexuals to have children since they're nothing but goddamed pedophiles?

WHY NOT DO THESE THINGS AS WELL?

I think what Timmy was getting at in his last post (And the only one I can concur with in this thread so far) is that parents can help in some cases to keep the pedos from coming after their children in most cases. Not so much in the examples you mentioned, where photos were taken without consent and displayed as pin-ups an Nambla and girl-love sites (And I agree those folks running such sites have what's coming to them). But you see so many cases of parents saying they didn't watch their child close enough and monitor the sites he/she went through before some creep seduced them and did whatever sick stuff he did to them.

Not that it excuses the bastards for doing this crap, nor do I feel any sympathy for anyone that gets "set up" by a sting where a cop pretends to be a young child.

Abortion doesn't endanger children, as no one who hasn't reached puberty has no need for one.

No. But I believe someone who comes right out and admits they have a problem shouldn't be ignored. And someone who goes as far as taking pictures of children and rating their sexiness online for other sickos needs to be watched. It's already more than "thought" IMO.

Because they are children and can not speak for or protect themselves. You can't be that stupid.

I'm all for banning abortion except in cases where the mother's life is in danger. Anything else is convenience.

    :marathon:

If you think that, you have some serious problems and should seek counciling yourself. :jayzus:

Because they are emotional red herrings which are irrelevant to the discussion, for one. This comes across as positively shrill even.

But to succinctly sum up a response to that...wanting to deal with one thing that harms children isn't made moot just because there are other things that harm children.

It's not an either/or situation. We strive to ensure both freedom of speech and the welfare of children. We can't trade one for the other.

Now if any of those sites listed (I didn't link to any of them) is doing anything illegal then bring the hammer down. And crimes of this sort deserve the harshest of punishments.

I'll put it this way, I'd be more than happy if every resource currently being wasted on the failed war on drugs was applied to ending pedophilia. And in the same vein apply the same variety of "help" to those convicted of drug offenses. Mandatory sentences, seizing property and freezing assets ...

Gun and car owners could be considered ticking time bombs as well. They are certainly responsible for more deaths than pedophiles. Do you think the government should monitor internet activities and phone calls of all gun and car owners as well?

How exactly is it harming a child if someone masturbates to their picture, and the child never finds out about it? I mean yes, if the parents find out, they can take legal action to have it taken down, but there isn't really anything illegal about it, is there? I'm sure surveillance cameras have the images of thousands of children stored. I'm sure tourists with cameras have captured children in the background of their photographs as well, and I'm sure they've uploaded those to various internet sites.

He certainly has the right to fantasize about children, so long as he doesn't actually take or download pornographic pictures of them. That is already illegal. Fantasizing about naked children isn't illegal. Having pictures of fully clothed children is not illegal. Otherwise, why is this website still running?

Silly comparison Timmy, how often are guns or cars intentionally used to kill innocent people? And pedophilia is a life killer for the victims whether or not they actually die.

I'm hoping this is nothing more than obvious trolling because the collection and use of photos varies quite drastically.

Big difference between morality and legality. In my opinion we should do everything possible to curb this behavior. That most certainly includes considering out and proud pedophiles as more likely to molest children.

But I am serious. How does masturbating to a picture harm the person who is in the picture?

So you wish to regulate people's thoughts? :dayton:

The most likely person to molest a child is someone they are close to.

    No offense Tamar, but....

Elwood is an idiot if he allows those links to remain. "Legal" or not, they still represent a liability issue. And frankly, the dicey issue of whether or not they're "legal" isn't something that I think should be played around with.

I'll tolerate most anything, but WF linking to pedophile sites is totally unacceptable. Tamar, you really should have known better. You included the links for shock value, but they aren't necessary to the ongoing discussion in the thread.

I will usually browse WF while at work, but I won't log on from work to a site where there are links to pedophilia sites. The White Room and semi-porno avatars are bad enough, but that's just totally unacceptable.
