Stars Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams yet there is no thread???

If these three just sat around and talked and they made a movie about it, I'd consider watching it!

I just got back from it, and though no Oz movie will actually beat the original one, I nevertheless had a lot of fun watching.

Yes, a few parts drag, and the main character doesn't get quite believable as a good guy, but there was enough creatures, special effects and heart to keep me entertained throughout. Personally, my opinion is the supporting cast steals the show in this and should have gotten more time.

And Mila Kunis as a motherf*$*#!& Red Mage is worth the price of admission for those who are Final Fantasy fans. :D

I think most of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are comparing it too closely to the original Wizard of Oz movie, hence the low score. That's fair and not fair at the same time. Without that impossible legacy to live up to, most people would probably give this a B- but for myself,

    Final Score: A-

I highly recommend seeing this in 3D, but non-3D would be just as good.

I was really excited about it, but I saw a less than stellar review for it and haven't gotten around to seeing it yet.

The local independent is on a John Carpenter retro jag so in the past weeks I've seen:
    "THEY LIVE"
    "The Thing"
    and...

    wait for it...

"BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA"!

The original is a timeless classic, no film will ever reach legendary cultural status like Wizard of Oz.

Despite the talent associated with it, this looked terrible from the trailers. I might give it a shot once it's out on Netflix/The Pirate Bay.

I just wanna say "Return To Oz", is hella underrated.

    And, oddly, also by Disney.

Same here, except I likely won't see it until it's on HBO or one of the movie channels. The reviewer I saw really nailed the lead actor for his flat performance (and I've never cared for that actor in the first place).

James Franco is one of the most lifeless, bland actors at work today. Seems like a nice enough guy, but he couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

I would have been more inclined to see this movie if they had kept with their original casting of Robert Downey Jr. Now he would have been perfect as the wizard.

I was gonna mention this in my review also. At times in this movie, he really takes you out of the moment with acting that would make Keanu Reeves look like an Oscar winner, but at other times, he just nails it and is very believable as the Wizard. He's the movie's best and worst actor at the same time.

 Who was the flavor of the month a few years back? Was in Avatar, the Clash of the Titans remake, and Terminator 4(?). They should have him and James Franco do a movie together.

The neighborhood theater does a thing on Weds where the first showing is a kids show. They're free, lights are only half dimmed, sound is kept reasonable, strollers are welcome, etc.

Not bad. The Land of Oz/effects, the hotties, and the monkey and chinadoll are the highlights. As prequels go, did a better than average job of creating a plausible enough plot. Agree with Scorp that Franco was very hot/cold. Fun enough flick. B+.

Oh, also understand that this is a definite kid's movie.
