Some of us have worked hard to mildly reputable. Others have worked hard to be shit stained assholes.

Don't let Rick Deckard's hard work go to waste. Drop him back to 7 red pips. :)

If no one cares about rep, why reset it?

It's all just a game, except when delicate little repwarrior feelings get hurt.

I vote no to that idea. It's a moderate amusement. Randomization makes it completely meaningless and we'd just as well not have it at all.

Everyone claims rep isn't important and there's no such thing as repwar or repwarriors. So Rick's rep got set to maximum green goodness because it doesn't mean anything. Right?

I never claimed that. I think rep is a nice little feature of wordforge. Leave it on and let it run or turn it off completely, though. People that don't want to participate have always had the option of turning it off.

Fuck. Another idiotic decision on the part of Lanzman. The reason I came back here from TK was that they fucked around administratively with rep.

    ...

Do you not remember the shitstorm when I spent an evening in chat giving out random amounts of positive rep to the majority of active posters?

Good or bad no one wants us artificially messing with the system. The one exception has been people can be reset to zero on request....not boosted so high they are instantly #1.

Finally, it's in our rules that the staff doesn't care about rep war and while the supermods can participate in it, it's always been an unwritten understanding that Admins won't, both because we can just set rep at will to what we want, but even if we did it manually we have unlimited rep with which to dominate with.

Are you changing the rules because usually that is announced before being implemented not after?

I give my rep to Rick when he earns it. What others do is their business but to be blunt this is more bullshit on the part of Lanzman who did it only be cause he doesn't like Sokar.

I still maintain that rep should be reset to 0 for everybody once a year.

It would make an incentive for good discussion, imo.

I set Rick's rep to the top because all the :tantrum: in his thread deserved nothing less. I can always put it back to what it was.

Lanz, Rick's thread was a perfect example of letting rep run. He gets his amusement out of having it as low as it'll go. The people that hate his guts get theirs out of negging him even more. If everyone involved wasn't getting something out of it, it wouldn't be happening. Either Rick would've turned it off, he wouldn't have started the thread, or no one would care enough to keep his thread going for him. If he had changed his mind and it was important, then he'd have to decide just how important it was and whether he wanted to be a different kind of poster for long enough to build it back up. Or, at least, that's how it's worked for everyone else for as long as we've been playing this game.

Of course, if you don't like the thread then that's a whole 'nother issue and goes to what you want out of this place...

    Ain't it just?

Hey Bock, if folks get their jollies out of negging Rick, imagine how much fun they can have knocking him back down to red pips.

Well, I've had my say. If you think that's a good idea and you still think rep's so unimportant you can move it around at will then go ahead. It's your place and all but if that's the way it's going to be then I'll just turn if off and spare myself the hassle.

    Meh.

Doesn't matter. I'm sure he'll be back in the red soon enough anyway. Might be fun to see how fast it goes down.

It doesn't matter. It's all pointless. The righteous indignation this will cause might be worth some amusement.

But how about this... to even the scales, you can drop my rep down as far as it will go. I could care less.

Or just get rid of the whole thing, since it seems to cause so much bitching and moaning.

Reputation is stored as a 31 bit integer with one bit that determines sign. It'll be fun watching KIRK1ADM and Sokar trying to hand out over two billion neg reps.

This reminds me of the time 14th Doctor used to be green, but he was being enough of a turd burglar that it finally came time to take him down a few pegs. After weeks and weeks of hitting him the board crashed. And someone hadn't ever thought to do a backup, so we wound up having to revert to the last version Lanzman had. That managed to not only restore 14th Doctor's rep, but conveniently re-ban a few people. :marathon:

What the Hell, while you're at it, you might as well set 14th Doctor and Baba to max green. Then set anyone you don't like or amuses you to max red. See how well that shit goes over. God, damn, it takes a lot of work to make TK look attractive, but you do your best at it.

    So, rep does matter.

I think we're beginning to see who really cares about it. Anyone who gets angry over this. That's who.

Personally, I couldn't care less if Rick became a good poster and everyone bumped him back up to green. He would've earned it, just like Dayton did, and I'd not be interested enough to try and keep him in the red if the tide of people who thought he wasn't retardation personified wanted to reward him for his good behavior.

But instead, Lanzman bumps him up to max green, screwing over Tamar, UA, Paladin, Muad, and those other posters who actually earned their spots. So who really cares about rep? :bergman: I'll always be at between #25 and #30 on the list, but I feel bad for those who were vying for the #1 spot get fucked because the owner holds a grudge against one or two posters. I don't care what a board owner trying to flex his pathetic internet power does to my account, but when I see my friends in the top spots get screwed over, and a troll get there on no merit of his own, it makes me angry.

The board owner's leadership, and lack of judgement is a big reason why I don't spend much time here anymore. The only thing that keeps me around is the rest of the posters hanging out, and because it's become a habit after all these years. If there's no trust in the leadership, I have to wonder why I even bother visiting. Trust is a two way street, and I really can't say honestly that I trust his leadership. Can any of you? Since he's taken over, I've pretty much have just been hoping he wouldn't make too many stupid decisions and as a result, a ton of people leave for TK, which, by the way, has happened once already.

Do whatever the fuck you want with the board Lanz, but don't be surprised when people slowly vote with their feet and leave this shithole you've helped bring down. :finger:

Jesus tapdancing Christ on a pogo stick. :jayzus:

It's your board man but I make it a point to try to earn any rep I get, what little of it seems to come around. It took me years to get off of page three.

Rick tries his damnedest to be a shitheel, says some of the stupidest shit imaginable, and this is the result.

Put it back or leave it, I couldn't care less. We all know what a assclown he is so it really doesn't do anything except insure he's going to really get hammered into oblivion now.

I've totally been misreading UA's posts. I had no idea he was vying for Most Popular Poster.
