Reminds me of the only trip I took on greyhound. We switched busses in Orlando and I was in drag. I got on and there was this muslim woman and her two kids. She had on a nice looking floral print head scarf. She is trying to get her kids seated and two dudes kept walking up and down thet aisle pushing her over into the seats and then going back and laughing about it. They were behind me so I could hear them, and she was having a hell of a time getting her kids settled with their snacks. So after a number of times of them just walking down and back for no reason I stood up to block the dude, and walked down the aisle to ask her if she needed some help getting her bag back up because it was just thoughtless of all the big strong men around to let the woman try to lift it back up on the railing. She thanked me and I just waited there complimenting her kids while she finished packing up and getting them settled with neck beard standing behind me. He bumped into me trying to push me over and I turned around and gave him a look, and he actually said he was sorry and squirmed back to his seat. I have known for a long time when you are already tall, and you are in heels, you are really intimidating when you puff up as a guy. Ramming into me was probably not as soft as ramming into her either, so the guy really had to double think his position.
that position would be more compelling if it were applied consistently to other issues. Either we do get to pre-emptively restrict the liberties of other based on hypothetical future harm - or we don't.
I would like to pre-emptively restrict the liberties of whatever graphic "designer" came up with the Canucks "orca" logo. Before they strike again.
I had to look him up. What a piece of trash, possibly execerbated the Pakistani-India relations with his involvement of the Bengali revolution
And before anyone starts in about "I shouldn't have to pay for that, I don't use those benefits" or "those things don't benefit me". Do you know what countries don't have the things on the list? Third world countries, that's who. So, if you don't wish to pay for these services, well .... I think you have your answer.
Embrace wasteful spending and authoritarian collectivism, or else you want to live in a third world country! I believe I will reject all of those options.
This should make for some interesting pillow talk. Which of those, in your estimation, is "wasteful"? Oh, lemme guess. Anything that doesn't benefit you personally. Prove me wrong.
I do not think most of these meet any sort of definition of "democratic socialism". Just because Republicans say everything is socialism doesn't mean it is.
Good point. But if you broaden the definition to "programs that help the general population [including R&D that benefits people instead of merely billionaire portfolios - which may be a side effect but should not be the primary goal] and pushes us toward advancement," I think it works. I just wanted to bookmark it for the next time @Lanzman does his "free stuff" riff.
The programs listed generally pay for themselves. The ones that don’t, cost less than the military budget as well as corporate welfare - individually.
Was actually thinking of going thru this and pointing out which of them are not Federal responsibility, the couple that are actually unconstitutional, and the ones explicitly authorized by the Constitution. Oh, and some that are state or local things and not federal at all.
Hey, knock yourself out. ETA: So you're saying it's only "free stuff" if it's federal, not state or local? How does that work, exactly?
