No, it isn't, but a BBC article talking about why it is suddenly "taken seriously" should probably declassify it as a "we never landed on the Moon" thing. Or...? https://edition.cnn.com/2021/07/16/politics/biden-intel-review-covid-origins/index.html Look, there's your God, speaking through the voice of your Prophets. CNN is fake news!
You’re really bad at this. One of the reasons why they’re looking into it is because wankers keep claiming (without evidence) that it came from a lab. And I’m certain, just as with JFK, the moon landings, and 9/11, no matter how much evidence they provide showing that the conspiracy theories are all wrong, idiots will continue to believe in the conspiracy theories. Also, I’m an atheist, so I have no gods, and if I was going to have one, it certainly wouldn’t be Biden. I didn’t even want him to get the nomination. I’d much rather have Warren or Sanders in the White House right now.
"One of the reasons why they're looking into this" is that "wankers keep claiming" that it came from a lab... so that's why now, the Biden administration claims it at least as likely it did so? That's why Fauci is "not convinced" the virus has a natural origin? ... No, I'm not the one bad at this. At least good for you that you would've voted Sanders, I would've too, if I had the chance. Not the place to discuss that.
No. I started this thread so that political memes could be discussed. If you don't want discussion, only memes, go to the random meme thread and no one will question or attempt to discuss the topic of the meme.
that's what I thought - when I first started posting here after a multi-year break. But, when I did, .. think it was Forbin that started crying because I remarked on a meme he posted so I created another meme thread that people could discuss memes.
She's right. Not about this thread, which Bickendan started, but the original one from last year: https://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/political-meme-thread.120563/
Sorry @Bickendan. Guess I didn't realize a new thread was started. Thought the old title just kept changing.
Yeah, your political meme thread was a good idea, so it's getting the annual installment treatment like the random meme thread The Twitter thread was left as is this year to troll Steve
You don't understand, Orange Man said it so it can't possibly true. We follow the science (unless it disrupts the prescribed narrative) around here, yer sir.
The Biden administration is not convinced. Some officials in the administration are convinced, despite, as the article points out, no new evidence gathered since May, that the chances of zoonotic origin and lab leak are equal. That doesn't make convinced that the lab leak happened, nor correctly estimating the likelihoods. Are they even scientists? The article doesn't say, but I doubt it. The null hypothesis should be zoonotic origin given the last several deadly coronaviruses all had confirmed zoonotic origins. Failure to find the origin animals (assuming they're alive to be found) is only the very weakest evidence against zoonotic origin. It took 15 years to track down the original SARS bats. The camel intermediaries for MERS were easier, but the bats still haven't been found. The fact that we haven't found the SARS-CoV-2 bats yet, when we aren't even certain what the intermediary animal is (if there is one), shouldn't be remotely surprising. Frankly the best evidence of the lab leak is China's intransigence in refusing to hand over the WIV database to even the WHO, and that could be for any number of reasons unrelated to the pandemic. (None of which make it okay for them not to do so, just that it would be a mistake to automatically assume "something to hide" = "hiding the lab origin of SARS-CoV-2")
Okay, let's say that it did escape from a lab. What then? Do you think that China will admit to it? Do you think that the world will hold China accountable? Because here's how I see it all playing out in that instance: China denies everything, calls all of it a "capitalist plot" (ignoring the fact that China is now every bit as capitalist as the US), and produces their own report "proving" that it didn't come from a lab. The rest of the world does some stern finger-wagging and then moves on to something else. Slapping sanctions on China won't really work, as they'll just retaliate by cutting off our supply of electronics (and in case you haven't noticed, we're having trouble getting that shit as it is). Going to war with them isn't really an option, either. As for Fauci's statements, all I can find is him saying he can't rule out the possibility that it was a lab leak, which is hardly an endorsement of the idea. I can't prove that the Loch Ness monster isn't real, but I can say that the evidence I've seen against existing is pretty damned compelling. Somebody comes up with a body, then I'll change my mind, but until then, count me firmly in the camp that it's a hoax.
Ok. Next All Employee meeting with the CEO, I will submit the question “Is it possible to determine if a virus had been created in a lab?”
Or, you could just read this. And this article makes a pretty good case that COVID-19 was probably circulating in people for months before a variant appeared that actually made people sick.
The solution to everything is tentacle porn. Except tentacles. Then the solution is Japanese women. We should institute a volunteer policy for Japanese women. I think we'll get enough.
