My mom actually helped found this as an on-campus student group back in the '70s, basically as a way of extending the middle finger at the people who actually used it as a slur towards herself and other Natives. Kind of laughable in some ways how limited some racist assholes are in coming up with their slurs, you know, by just adding a word to an existing one. But then, some of us have a darker sense of humor than others.

It is a worthy subject to discuss and taking a negative term and try to turn it into a positive is the justification some black people state as the reason they personally use the n word.

Even more to the point, remember how butthurt he got when I asked him if his family was full native American and he cried racism and complained because he assumed it was meant to be some sort of racial slur (even though it wasn't)? Who said I'm cool with it? How often do you see me use racial slurs in any context? I am pretty stubborn, though, so if someone tells me I can't say something, I'm sure as hell going to say it. In this case it has the added benefit of being based on the truth. "Prairie Nigger" was indeed a slur directed at Natives (and still is by some people) and for one group of them, forming a student organization with this name was their reaction to it. It was their way of telling the people who used it as a slur to go fuck themselves, because the slur was essentially meaningless. And sharing this story is my way of doing the same to all the moral busybodies that are so damn worried over a word. What's even more hilarious and helps to drive this point home is the repeated use of the term "apple" being applied to me, which I've noticed none of you moral busybodies have really said anything against. Could almost be taken as support for it, some would say.

Or "twinkie" to Asians. The upshot is that it's something of a double-whammy in that it insists all people who belong to a certain racial group should be a certain way while simultaneously expressing disdain for white people, because white people are also all the same, and how dare anyone try to sneak out of their box with a convenient label on it? People should all be the fucking same as what that label says, right?

Yeah, I'm not familiar with the term, but from context I'm guessing it's some sort of slur against native Americans. If so, can't say I'm too impressed by people using it.

My use of it is, and I'd hoped the fact I rarely ever use the word might, I don't know, have some significance or something, but I guess it was entirely lost on my audience.

I have little desire to discuss my personal life here, but my racial background is very similar to Captain X's. I've even had similar issues with the attitudes of my fellow Aboriginals towards mixed race individuals, but those experiences didn't turn me into an self-loathing, anti-minority douchebag. I've already said above that I'm not a fan of the term, but if anyone here has license to use it, it's me.
