    The rally’s biggest promoter, Proud Boy and former Infowars reporter Joe Biggs, advertised the event with explicit calls to violence. In the run-up to the event, Biggs has posed in shirts with slogans like “death to antifa” and “training to throw communists out of helicopters.” (The latter, a reference to Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s execution of political opponents, is a popular reference on the paramilitary right.)

    In repeated social media posts promoting the rally, Biggs called for blood. “Get a gun. Bu[y] ammo. Get your gun license. Get training. Practice as much as you can and be ready because the left isn’t playing anymore and neither should we,” he wrote in one of many similarly violent posts, among which was a picture of a person being suffocated with a plastic bag with the caption “death to antifa.” He repeated the sentiments in a video while holding a pro-Trump baseball bat.

    But in a Facebook post last week, Biggs announced that the FBI had visited him in his Florida home after a pair of mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton. “I wanna say again to all attending rally in Portland,” Biggs wrote, apparently in reaction to the visit. “Tone down rhetoric.”

    I am not on board with any political violence. Have a large police presence, plenty of disinterested impartial people with cameras, and arrest those committing crimes.
    BTW if a masked suspect from either side (or no side) is detained or arrested, unmask them and film them immediately. Stream everything live with no editing.
    Leave the mainstream media out of this as much as possible.

    This wouldn't happen in Portland if the idiot mayor whose also the police commissioner would finally grow a pair of balls and unleash the police on both groups. Both groups act like they do because they aren't afraid the police will come in and smash them.

    In essence the city of Portland let's both groups fight whenever they want. You don't see this nonsense in other cities. Just Portland.

    The Proud Boys are a kind of fraternal organization dedicated to hyper-masculinity and far right politics. They characterize themselves as "Western chauvinists" and believe immigration and cultural diversity are harmful to society. They are predominantly, though not exclusively white, and have adopted many of the in-jokes and mannerisms of white supremacists (such as the "OK" symbol). They are known for their readiness to engage in violent brawls in support of their cause.

    Fine, that means you have to accept whatever I tell you as the truth. :)

    Oh. Kind of like the Shriners then? Riding those tiny motorcycles with the fez on their hats are always a hoot and a half. Used to see them a lot at the Pine Tree Festival Parade every August.

    Have to say I disagree there. This country is tearing itself apart. Each violent clash raises the stakes for next time. Each makes it seem more and more like our political divisions are so vast and insurmountable they can only be resolved through force.

    What we need are cooler heads to prevail.

    Based on history these are fringe nuts out for something other than peaceably expressing their free speech. Those not interested in violence probably will avoid it or not be there in the first place. Beatings would be good for them, probably missed it in their youth which is why they're there now.

    Don't want the cops beating them. Don't want civilians hurt. Just to be clear.

    Guess who picked Portland for their weekend getaway? And of course we are downtown. Lincoln Station on the MAX. (One of the reasons for the getaway is that life has been a bit much this last week. Was too busy to be on twitter much. Didn’t know the fascists were gathering until the ride down).

    On the other hand, crossed off ‘Three Chicks at the Same Time’ from the bucket list last night so if it is my time maybe it is my time.
